    holy crap "what the"!!!

with all the rain in the last few weeks, i was getting the obligatory leak in the foot wells of the disco! it normally only happens when my truck is park on a down slop face first, and i can usually dry it up pretty quick with a hair dryer!!!.
but the last few days i have been worried as the carpet, it wasn't drying up and seemed to be getting wetter buy the day (u could squish it like a wet car sponge!! ) so i thought id better have look today and see if i could work it out . Well holy crap !! the bloody carpet wasn't to saturated but the underlay was wet as an eight month olds nappy after a twelve hour sleep

had to pull it up and inspect the damage and try to dry it out, but under the lay (that was clever hey!) was a surprise to rival any soiled nappy the dust and grit under the underlay was so wet that it had turned to mud!, and really wet mud!! i pulled the underlay out and dried the carpet out once again with the air dryer and began to clean up it up !! i really can't express my dismay at how much mud was there i was that dumb founded that i even thought the boys on the forum will never believe this and forgot to take a pic
but any way i then tried to find the leek and "really no ones surprise I'm sure" !! it was the bloody windscreen seal at the top of the corners of the windscreen !!! can someone give me some fix it now!! solutions for this and yes the silicon thing will work but, y do they have this prob??, and am i really better off replacing the window seal all together ???

    cheers

p.s the windscreen was replaced in i july 07'

I don't know about the leak but as for drying your carpets the best thing to do to dry them, apart from pulling them out, is to lift them up and put something in there while they are drying. It lets the air circulate. Otherwise as you found out they will never dry . They will rust out your floors though.

I took the carpets out of my daughters and hit them with the high pressure water cleaner. Boy, that shifted the red pindam from the Kimberley! They look good now.

Here underlay at the rear seat footwell was so wet it had gone mouldy and made the carpet black from mould, too. I hosed off the underlay and carpets after treating them with bleach.

I bet you have a non genuine windscreen.
The aftermarket ones are a slightly different shape and dont seal correctly unless the instaler knows. They need plenty more sealing goop than a normal vehicle to seal them correctly.

yhea probably !!, it was replaced before i brought the truck as part of the sale !!.
is there a certain goop, as you call it that, needed or do i just use siloflex ?, and would the siloflex hold down the rubber seal as in the pic??

Hi , with the recent rain I finally got sick of drying out the front footwells in my 93 disco.
I was getting water dripping into the footwells from the ventilation system. Early D1s have the air inlet in the centre of the plenum chamber so the water ends up in both footwells, whereas later D1s have the inlet on the left side so only the passenger's feet get wet. To fix the problem I removed the plennum cover, installed a baffle above the inlet (a piece of aluminium attached to the wiper mount bolt) I also cleaned off the old sealant between the windscreen rubber and plennum cover and resealed this join with a generous ammount of windscreen sealant. (the type that does not set hard) So far so good - no more leaks.
    Regards

LR came out with a fix for that. It's a lip on the bottom edge of the plastic air intake screen above the LH heater inlet.

Oh, if the screen has been replaced make sure the lower lip of the rubber is over the top of the rear edge of the plenum. Otherwise the water runs down the screen and straight into the air intake. My daughters did that. It's not here for me to take a pic.
