    Hi Members
I've managed to obtain a USBJtag.com USBBDM NT interface to recover bricked Td5 ECU's and modify VIN information. As supplied the USBBDM NT lacks the required configuration to work with the Td5 ECU, so I am looking for a package of config files and a script that can be used to automate the recovery process. Happy to pay for needed files.
    Many Thanks
    Nicky

Hello, gentlemen! Using your knowledge from this thread, I removed the "brick" from his NNN500250.

    A small update:

Earlier this year I was looking at the NNN code found what appears to be method of triggering a recovery mode. I haven't been able to verify this in practice as yet but it appears that if a specific message is sent to the ECU it drops into recovery mode and waits for a diagnostic connection.

If the ECU has no variant map or fuel map loaded or if the maps are missing specific check bytes it aborts startup but you can still connect with a diagnostics tools and access a subset of the programming routines - programming Injectors, uploading maps, VIN, etc. This is what the factory would have used to program a virgin ECU.

A bricked ECU only occurs when the maps are written to a point where the check bytes are present but the code is incomplete causing the ECU to crash when running. This creates a situation where the diagnostic routines are inaccessible so the maps cannot be loaded.

So being able to trigger the recovery mode would mean debricking is possible without cracking the lid.

Anyway it's not much use unless it's incorporated into a device that can upload .maps...

    cheers
    Paul
