    New 101 owner

Thought its about time I piped up and let everyone know that I have purchased a 101, albeit, in pieces. I bought the project off stusgonesailing a few weeks ago now and have slowly been sorting through the bits and pieces and preparing to have the chassis galvanised. This in itself is posing a drama as the first galvaniser i rang was under the impression it is now illegal to galvanise a car chassis and the second one strongly advised against it, but was willing to do it at my request. I've already sought some galvanising help from some members on here already but I'll be putting another thread up about this in Technical Chatter as so far I've not been able to find any first hand experience of someone warping a land rover chassis of any type while looking on-line.

Current plan is to restore everything as I put it back together (re-galvanise, re-paint, clean etc), and hopefully try to retain as much original equipment as possible. I hope to get it painted in bronze green and have it looking as it came from the factory as opposed to brushing on litres of nato green. As it is I'm in no rush to finish it and will work on it as money comes to hand and in my free time. I am aiming to have the chassis rolling within a couple of months though so it can be moved about easier. When its finished it will be my weekend toy - fishing and 4wding trips, moving ridiculously large items and embarrassing my girlfriend by driving through populated places.

I've also joined the 101 club in the UK. I was hoping to have my membership details by now along with access to the 6 stud magazine and list of re-manufactured spares but so far nothing has come through. In the mean time I've got my hand on digital copies of the repair manual, parts manual and user manual and printed them off at work. These are proving to be very valuable in working out exactly what everything is.

Finally, along with a galvanising thread that I'll put up I will also be posting some general restoration questions and a build up thread in the members section, unless the mods think a 101 thread is more appropriate in here.

    Cheers,
    Stuart

I've been having a good read the last few days. A lot of very useful info and I've been book-marking anything I think will be useful to me over the next few months.

    Cheers

They are all ex mil - there were no civy variants (but I know what you meant)

Dedicated 101 technical stuff should go in the FC section, general mil type questions - equipment and use on REMLR and general technical questions that would apply to any vehicle (not 101 specific) in the Technical section.

Well that is what I do anyway.

Well I don't know if it counts as TJ blamed the warping on the chassis being dropped but you might be interested.
