As I understand it they had a flight plane that allowed them to over fly indon air space but deviated from it by how much I don't know my guess is they will be released with a bribe, sorry fine
Two Indonesian fighter jets forced an Australian civilian plane to land after it was detected in Indonesian air space last night. A civilian Beechcraft plane crewed by two Australians entered the air defence area of Manado in North Sulawesi. The captain was Graeme Paul Jacklin while his copilot was Richard Wayne MacLean, from Burnside in South Australia, according to an Indonesian air force spokesman. The men said they had left Darwin bound for Cebu in the Philippines, officials said. "The plane was detected by our national air command radar. The plane violated the flight path," Indonesian air force spokesman Brigadier General Hadi Tjahyanto said. He said the plane violated its flight path as it passed above Indonesian waters around 8am local time. Two Sukhoi jets followed the plane and asked the captain to land in Manado at 11.40am local time. The Australian's flight documents were then inspected. Mr MacLean's wife Kaye, said her husband was a 'ferry pilot' and the plane had been sold and was being taken to the Philippines. General Hadi said both men were being questioned.
The incident occurred just days after the inauguration of Indonesia's new president Joko Widodo. After being contacted by News Corp Australia last night,Australian aviation authorities said they were unaware of the incident. Indonesia has a history of defending its airspace rigorously.
Do you guys think these blokes will be in much trouble over this? And why would they have strayed into Indonesian airspace?

Any boogie boards in the luggage?
A follow up article on yesterdays story.
Two Australian pilots detained in Indonesia were nearly shot down by the Indonesian air force but will by allowed to leave after paying a fine. Authorities said the two men admitted flying in Indonesian airspace without a permit and agreed to a $5700 fine. Syaifullah Siregar, the acting head of Sam Ratulangi airport authority, said the two Australian's faced charges of violating Indonesian aviation law, which carries a maximum penalty of three years jail or a 60 million rupiah ($5700) fine. He said authorities were waiting for clearance from air force HQ and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before the men were allowed to leave. They came close to being shot down. one of the Indonesian Sukhoi fighter pilots revealed to News Corp Australia they had locked on their weapons to the twin-prop Beechcraft. Sukhoi pilot Wanda Suriansyah said the plan was to force the small plane down in Ambon, after it was intercepted at Makassar. He said that instruction was ignored so the pilots warned they would use their missile. "We showed them that we will use our missile. We said,if they still ignored us,automatically we will shoot the plane. Our position was locked," Suriansyah said. "If there is an instruction to shoot,we will shoot. Then after we communicated with the pilot, there was no problem. Maybe because of the Australian characteristic,a little bit unruly,we were forced to make some manoeuvres to make them fearful. "We said,'Our plane is a war jet. If you ignore our instructions you will be shot.' Thanks god,all went well and the plane landed in Manado."
Why would they have ignored an instruction like that?
The article I read was they were delivering the plane and had permission to fly into Indonesian airspace. They had, however, deviated from the flight plan.
Why would they ignore the instruction? In the Australian culture, near enough is good enough. They probably thought they had permission to be there and thought the Indonesians were being pedantic. Australians tend to get their back up when they they are dealing with someone who they think are being pedantic.
after MH370, can you blame the Indonesian authorities?
Latest news I have seen is they will be fined $6000 and allowed to leave.

Methinks we will here more about this one in the diplomatic channels.
Possibly because of our Navy's blatant attitude a few months ago, the Indonesian govt has reacted this way.
I don't blame them, but sympathise with the Australian civilian pilots being bullied around by Indonesia's military.
BTW, Indonesian authorities monitor all aircraft radio frequencies out of Darwin so would have known exactly where the Beech was at all times.
I don't think there would be twin engine aircraft flying out of Australia that wouldn't have a transponder that identifies it.
Me? I think its a big bull**** put-up by Indonesia.
New Indo PM flexing muscles maybe - violations of Indo sovereignty will not be tolerated message to Australia.
