If possible get him to write down exactly what his quote covers and what, if anything, will be extra. The last time I paid someone to do an engine swap for me the bill came back double the quoted price.
Even worse, much of the job had to be redone and the clutch has never been right. Starting with a written quote makes sure there are no misunderstandings and, in my case, would have made it easier to get him to sort the clutch.
