I was probably about number 38,856 or so and was tempted to put my headlights down to an even lower beam to see through the exhaust gases.
An impressive piece of engineering yes, but I do hope that they had a malfunction with the exhaust extraction and that last night was not what we should always expect, otherwise I don't think I would like to use it in peak periods! Regards Glen

In the meantime, why has no-one pointed out the bleeding obvious. The tunnel adits and exits are in the inner city. You have to drive into the inner city to use the tunnel. how does this "take traffic out of the inner city". What are still needed and should have been built first are bridges outside the tight inner ring of the CBD and inner suburbs. Nothing fancy, just four lane bridges linking communities so one does not have to drive into the inner city to cross the river. I suggest bridges from Apollo Rd. to Racecourse Rd.,Oxford St. to Commercial Rd., Wynnum Rd. to Brunswick St., Ferry Rd. to Sylvan Rd., Boundary St. to Fred Schonnell Drive for starters. Yeronga (Orlando Rd.) to St. Lucia could be considered also. These would be convenient for the many motorists who wish to cross the river but not to go to or through the CBD. Currently one has to drive into the inner city and then backtrack out from the inner city when all one wants to do is cross the river. I don't approve of tolled roads either. I feel we are already being soaked hard enough by governments at all levels. Roads should be built out of the common purse for the free use of all. This principle should also apply to traffic calming (jamming) schemes. Nimbys who agitate for these should be firmly told that the road is a public one, not their private driveway and parking lot. You chose to live there, now put up with the traffic. Another road which urgently needs to be built is one to link the Bruce Highway from north of Caboolture with the Cunningham, Warrego, and Brisbane Valley Highways at Riverview or Dinmore to take through traffic out of Brisbane. |

Sweet - so there is now an oil trail through the Clem - once I drive it there'll be a few bolts, mudflaps etc - whatever falls off in that few miles!
