    NSW Pink Slip Changes

I recently heard of some changes coming in for vehicle rego inspections in NSW (pink slips).

VSI50 is not dead, negotiations are still happening, but some things are inevitable and the pink slip is changing to suit.

Apparently suspension lift up to 50mm will be allowed without an engineering certificate, but will require a blue slip to have the modification endorsed by the RTA and listed on your certificate for rego (need receipt from suspension installer or inspection certificate from a suspension installer for the blue slip process).

Pink slip inspection will require the checking of the suspension height against stock vehicle data (measured from centre of hub to wheel arch) or modified height shown in vehicle certificate endorsed by RTA. If height is outside stock dimension or the RTA endorsed certificate then vehicle will fail and have to be recified before it can be re-registered.

Among other changes to the pick slip, bull bars will be inspected (protrusions etc.).

I haven't heard if tyre size checks are will be included in the new pink pink slip inspection, but I wouldn't be surprised. VSI09 applies to wheel and tyre sizes - it requires any change from placard tyre size, beyond + or - 15mm on outside diameter to be certified by an engineering signatory.

It'll be interesting to see if older vehicles with settled suspension get failed or if this will be targetted.

    VSI50 is still very alive!

This is what I was emailed.

    G'day Simon,
This from a member of the industry and the group involved.
There is some talk of "self certification" if recognised brands/systems are used and documented, thus circumventing the engineering certificate process. We'll see I guess.

You might like to inform those on outers. Let me know if you do.

    Cheers

Guys, a new draft of VSI50 was sent out to industry this week. Looks much closer to an acceptable compromise and removes the more contentious issues for 4Wheelers. Sorry I can't quote it but the draft will be circulated by the RTA before adoption so everyone should be able to comment before it's law.

VicRoads has also issued a new draft of their thoughts on the NCOP and it is almost all we are looking for. In the cover letter that went with the draft, the author mentioned that Vic already refers to VSB14 ver 2 (second draft of the NCOP) internally so it seems they are close to adopting. Qld will adopt and VicRoads proposes to circulate their recommendations to the other state regulators. It's not without some issues but is very close to something most can live with and the rest can still go for certification.
    ..........
    Cheers
