G'day LTCTerry

I would have to agree with JackNZ that this is a special built/converted body, possibly ambulance or emergency services, as the rear door and rear side windows are non standard items, I would look to see if there are any holes in the floor where stretcher rails were fitted, there could be other pointers as to special seating (off to one side) for an attendent to sit,if so, this vehicle could be quite unique not only in Aust/NZ but very special in USA As to the Hella lights, I have looked up my 1997/98 "Cattle Dog"(catalogue) and the part No for the stop/tail/indicator lamp is Hella 2396 the lens only is Hella 9-2396-01 the lens gasket is 9-2397-40, I would advise you to purchase not only new lamps complete, but to purchase lens and gaskets as spares for your existing lights, I would also suggest that you make a protection frame to surround the lights out of 1/8 flat plate bent up at each end slightly higher than the light assy, this plate could use the same mounting bolts which the lamps use.

sample idea [ 1light1 ] sorry for the crude diagram but I am

not a computer wiz, bold is the protector

If will get some Australian Prices and availability on Monday or Thueday, there is also a copy light in the Australian NARVA range it is 86030 lamp assy it has Amber blinker lens/Red stop/tail with built in reflector, there is also an identical lamp P/no 86160 which has an all red lens with built in reflector,(as the US has red rear flasher regulations from memory), you could fit just the lens to the light LENS No is 86165 all taken from my 2009/2010 Narva catalogue, this lens should also fitt straight on to the Hella unit as Narve is a copy of Hella,as Hella is no longer manufacturing in Aust and it is imported ex Germany it has max import duty, Narva is Aust so is cheaper and easier to acquire

hope that is of some help

cheers

New Land Rover

G'day UncleHo, Disco2hse & John:
The body of the Landy does, indeed, extend about 12" beyond the last chassis cross member. There is about 4' between the rear door and the back of the middle seats. Can see no evidence of brackets for stretchers or additional seating for an attendant........but the beast is clearly different than others I have seen

The Nato Green is a match for the paint under the bonnet, windshield frame & wheel hubs........looks like that was the original color. Thanks for the color chart!!.

Appreciate the info on the Hella lights........looks like the part # was changed. Will order complete light assembly when I receive your info.

The Bentley pictured beside the Landy is a 1953 R Type. This was Bentley's 2nd postwar design & about 2000 were made. The Bentley was glad to see the Landy was a kindred spirit with RHD!!

Terry

Interesting project. Welding up the floor depends on your skills of course. I just had two holes in the floor of my Disco welded up by a shop, as I'm not an experienced welder. Wasn't that expensive.
I assume you've given the floor a good rust treatment? I gave mine two baths in rust converter and left it to work for a week, then painted over it with a paint with some rust converter in it, and then fish oiled the lot.

Rust repair panels for the firewall/floor are available from some of those landrover parts specialists that have been highlighted in previous posts, there is also a rust repair section for around the front vent flaps/firewall end section
there is also a coy. in the US called Rovers North which supplies a good selection of Landrover series parts www.roversnorth.com hope that is of some help.

cheers

Uncle, unless things have changed over the last few years, Narva are not manufacturers but importers and merchants. Their branded products come mostly from the third world.

Hi again, glad to be of help, my brother seems to remember some of these in a Post Offce yard in Wellington back in the '80's, so your's is probably not unique, though it may be in your part of the world. At least if the running gear is original, parts are easy to come by, mainly from the UK. Anything else is going to be easily fabricated, or undone if you wish to return it to original ex-factory spec, but then it wouldn't be 'unique' would it? I would suggest that you get it up to your standard and enjoy it, they have a habit of annoying the c--p out of you then you fix yourself and the world is great again, all be it slow, uncomfortable and noisy, it's called 'character'.

Another website you might try is NZLROC which is NZ Land Rover owners which is a web based club, who may be able to provide some more information about your vehicle.

Best of luck and looking forward to hearing from you again.

Jack

Google Hella and Narva, they both have on line catologues and a list of distributers.
