Moved network socket, I thought it was a joke .....

I asked for my network socket to be moved from below my desk to above desk height as I'm always plugging stuff in and out.

Under my desk, where the original socket was I found:

and above my desk I found :

I suppose , it does actually work, just not what I expected

That looks like rather a lot of work for a really ugly result.

no I didnt pay at all it was paid for by my work.
The socket on top of the desk wasn't even a socket he just left the patch lead sticking out!

I insisted he punch it into a proper socket houses in the point he mounted to the wall and didn't use?

It now looks like a proper socket on the desk but I could not be bothered arguing about the connection on the floor.

don't think we will be getting them again.

That was the first thing I was going to comment on. Male to male plugs

Problem with those trunking systems is that they are real pain to change and make like they are original. Still I would have thought it would have been easier to knock a hole in the top and run the conduit up from there, even if the cable were plugged in behind the panel (which would be equally sloppy). Probably too much effort to run a new cable back to the patch panel

The other option was that the person who did it is not AUSTEL licenced and therefore could only move the plug as it was and not cut and rejoin it into the socket hole.

Yeah the "architects" (or so they had on their business card ! ) that designed the fit out in our new building piut on the network connections and power points at floor level so..

1. cable from the computer (power and data) hand down and when you stretch your legs out you can get tangled up in them, and
3. It's a REAL PITA to plug in the camera to charge up, I can tell you.

Hahah, theres some dodgy cablers out there. We had a guy recently come out to do some stuff at our house, i wanted 2 network outlets put in in a new room we had built, i showed him where and showed him where my switch was so he knew where to run them too.

I came back later that day and found he ran a single peice of cable across from one side of the room to the other between the 2 points i had shown him. when i told him he did it wrong he said not to worry he will just join the cable to another length, i asked him how he intended on doing that and he had a worried look on his face as asked me if i actually did cabling and how i would do it! im not a cabler but work in IT so i have ran some dodgy cabling my self occasionally.

I think he was planning on just joining them cable to cable and taping it up. I later found out he wasnt austel licensed and doesnt normally do data cable just basic electrical stuff! It would have been good to mention that when i asked if he could do it.
