1947 Landrover???

Saw this on Fleabay, they say it is a 1947 Series 11 LandRover. Strange, could somebody educate me here but I thought the LandRover Series 1 was launched in 1948.... 30th April 1948 to be precise, anyrate have a look and I am sure the "Series" Landrover experts will have a comment or two on this!!

LANDROVER SERIES II 1947 - NTH OF MELB - eBay 1940 - 1970, Collector Cars, Cars, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 30-Jun-10 16:34:04 AEST)

I do notice that in the "Additional Information" section they state 8=1948/49 which I would guess would be the correct year of the vehicle!!!! I also note that they say it has a 4 litre motor, did LandRovers make a 4 litre motor in 1947??? Vehicle looks like a Jeep to me!!!

Not sure why - must be an AULRO thing - it is the second last page in the Series 1 section under market place alerts - basically already spotted.

Have a look at the thread What? started by RobHay. More information in there. Chassis no. is a 1949. The quoted engine no. is actually an 88" Series 2a chassisnumber. My opinion is that the car is a bitzer. None of the tub, bulkhead, front clip appear to be a match for any of the other two. The windscreen looks like a later fabrication. Car appears to have a 2.25 ohv engine when it should have an f-head 1.6 litre

The vendors decode information is incorrect.

86 = 1948 model Land Rovers (*860001 to *863000 - where * is L or R steering)
866 = 1949 model Land Rovers (*8663001 to *8667920)

The engine is a 2 1/4 litre engine from a series 2a (mid 1060's) 88" wheelbase Land Rover

The firewall and windscreen have been butchered and the radiator has been moved forward, the after market fuel tank is sitting where the brake and clutch levers should be. should we go on.
