Question Outside the box?

Hi,
I have just bought a 94 Defender TDi and as with all Defenders, my number plate sticks out past the body on a little extension bracket.
The old Series I & Series II had a square number plate and I was wondering how legal it would be to have one made up at a sign shop (quoted $50) in a matching font, colour and background logo, etc.
Surely I am not the only person to notice this messy little irregularity. New TD5s are super high tech but still have a crappy little bracket to extend the space where the standard plates go.
Has anyone put a square plate on their landy? Did 'THE MAN' come down on your freedom loving head?
Don't want to move the plate and a square one would look much better.

Any Ideas??

The high tech Puma engined Defender still has this wonderful and some would say quaint feature. I guess that it is because us colonials still insist on plates that aren't UK issue

The RTA in NSW sell the even wider Euro plates that would require a red flag attached when fixed to the Defender.

Just cut the plate down with a pair of tin snips.

also if you move the plate to the drivers side, the spare tyre blocks it from speed camera view, which is kind of cool.

I kinda like that dodgey little bracket for the number plate so I wont bother fiddling with mine.

I was wondering though whether one would be able to move the number plate to the rear bumper and still keep everyone happy?

Mine doesn't have the little triangular bracket, as a result the number plate has been bent and buckled a few times and the holes are flogged out.
Appreciate your little bracket
