It will just be a rebranded cheap no name Chinese TV - can be lucky.

Most Aldi electrical stuff I have bought has been returned a number of times before getting something that worked as it should and then died just out of warranty.

I hadn't noticed the reference to embroidery and made the mistake of assuming it was embossed.

Maybe they are really fluffy dice cleverly disguised to look like normal dice.

Would that increase or decrease their price/quality/value?

Your inputs are appreciated
A friend who is in the electrical trade told me that Aldi brand Tevion are made by NEC and the reason they are cheap is because Aldi buy a **** load of them, Regards Frank.

That looks to be about right too, I spent many years in electronics wholesale (Computer components) and the sourcing was half the fun in the early days.

The Chinese make heaps of stuff on contract and there is nothing wrong with that.

You go and see them, hand them a spec and they quote you based on the spec and the volume.

If the spec is nasty then you get a nasty product, not the Chinese's fault.

if the spec is good then you get a good product.

I remember buying a Sony DVD player when they first came out because Id always bought Sony.

14 months down the track and the thing has issues so I send it to be repaired and buy a cheap replacement unit for $36 from a computer mob I deal with.

Long story short?
My Sony unit cost me $450 to buy and $140 to fix and when it broke the second time I stopped using it.
The Happy life $36 DVD player worked fine for 4 years and when it broke I tossed it in the bin, the kids no name $35 DVD player also lasted 3 or 4 years and ended up in the bin to be replaced with a Dolby 5.1 no name brand unit for $99 which is a bit noisy and pops and hums a bit but they are happy with it.

Ive also bought cheapo LCD TVs and one unit had 20 or so dead spots on the display (An acceptable amount on a huge LCD) but the guys told me to bring it back.
I returned the unit expecting to be told come back in 2 weeks but they did a straight swap for a unit they unpacked and hot staged after I called to make sure the unit worked fine.

If the warranty is good and the specs are ok for the money then I have little hesitation buying inexpensive consumer electronics from well known outlets considering that it probably rolled off the assembly line next to a name brand unit.

Most of it is made in Taiwan or ROC anyway.

Cheers,
Tony

In Aldi @ Bundaberg is the BAHN and not the Tevion.
It is based on RCA guts
I guess that would be OK

* 1920 x 1080 resolution
* Contrast ratio: 5000:1

G'Day. I've previously covered my experiences with Aldi tech.
I'll just repeat what the cashiers insist to me: "Photocopy the original receipt (not durable, fades) and keep it for returns!"
If you're not driving an hour for the gear, no problems with getting your money back for the next toy ; )
Dave.

Based on the spec you published Chucaro the only pov bit is the 8 millisecond response time.

Then again in real life our eyes and brains cant really see the difference between 8ms and 2.4ms anyway so the difference is mainly wank factor more than anything else.

Fast response time is more relevant if you use the Telly as a computer monitor or similar.

For the money, its not a bad deal and specifications are relevant to its intended use.

This is turning out to be an interesting thread!

On the TV thing - yep buy the Tevion.

On the Ferrari thing, there is no other expensice car company that dilutes its brand so much by seling so much RUBBISH with the company logo on it.

You wouldn't catch Aston Martin doing that...
(well, not unless the Cygnet is released anyway).

Ok, this is what I got:
Bauhn 106cm (42") 200Hz (not the one of 100Hz and not Blue-Ray ready)
Full HD 1080P
Integrated HD tuner
3X HDMI inputs
1920x1-80 resolution
Blue-Ray disc ready
2 years in house warranty (unlike the big brands here in Bundy)
Side ports HMDI composite.

Going by the warranty alone and knowing what happens her with LG, Samsung and others the inhouse service alone was a great value.
Cost: $ 700.00

The best price for an LG 200 HZ in the net is $1950.00 and not available in Bundy

Thank you all for the inputs

Now I will call Austar to see this offer of not contract and free instalation
Jim antenas ask me $ 800 for instalation
