What part of 'Exellent Condition' includes panel rust you'd put your finger through?

I went off on a bit of a drive to check out a Unimog yesterday. Advert said it was in good condition and they are pretty hard to find, so didn't mind too much that it was 450Kms to get to see it.

When I got there I was a bit surprised to see what some people describe as 'Good Condition'. The bloke selling it had sent me a few photos, but they were all from about 10 metres away. I did ask if there was any rust and he gave me the impression that there were a few insignificant marks here and there (it was 12 years old) so I thought that was fair enough.

Anyway, check out a few of the photos I've attached. Some of the rust holes you could almost put your hand through, and the rest of the vehicle was pretty tatty.

    Amongst other things:
    · Speedo/Odo not working
    · Tacho only works intermittently
    · Front tyres completely bald
    · Rears about 20%
    · Rust everywhere!
    · Seats pretty trashed - held together with baling twine
    · Coolant leaking around the top of the radiator
    · Engine filthy and covered in oil/diesel + dust
    · Engine would not rev beyond 2100RPM
    · Acceleration was glacial, and that’s coming from someone who drives a Series Land Rover! Seriously, it was as slow as.
    · Aircon fitted but not blowing cold air
    · Steering wheel at 45 degrees when going straight along the road
    · Exhaust brakes not working
    · Did I mention the rust?
    · Gear lever indicator lights only work for 1-2, nothing for 3-4 or 5-6 or 7-8

Whilst I had an interesting time looking it over, and the guy selling it was a nice bloke, I can't see how anyone can think these deficiencies add up to it being in good condition.

Anyone game to guess what the asking price might be?

    Cheers
    David

sorry to hear you wasted your time.
I remember driving for several hours to look at an old Mercedes in VCG apparently, could have easily snotted the guy when we pulled up. Can't work out what they are trying to achieve by telling pokies.

I have no idea about mogs, I recking 26K, but offer 5K.

    I'll guess. $30k

I saw one of the 404's at Wandin last year it was in very very poor condition. The cabin was only just on, interior was non existen and no tray. $8k.

That white one, cut out the rust, a bit of sheet metal and a MIG.

Do tell how much they want for it!

    Thats a classic.

I guess around the $29k mark.

When I grew up in germany, they were everywhere, most were als cobered in rust as they were used to spread Salt on the roads to melt the ice or as a snow plough.

I looked at a 69/70 Porsche a little while ago, ad said it was in brilliant original condition, not concourse but close.
    By god, were they dreaming.

I hate wasting my time as you probably do also.

From the corrosion in the pics I would say its been used as a fertiliser spreader,if it has I would expect the chassis to be worse.

LandAndy is 100% correct (used as a spreader with big booms on it), and all you others are guessing low....

Nah - it wasn't a waste of time. I had a nice ride up there on my motorbike, and got to drive my first Unimog which was pretty interesting, but I was quite disappointed with the condition of it.

Ha ha - yep I thought of "The Castle" a few times when I was looking at it!

And yes, it is in Keith.
