    In car camera

After nearly getting cleaned up a couple of times I'm thinking of getting a screen mounted in car camera. Any one got any good feed back on these devices ...Gary

I did a lot of research into them before buying mine (you tube rocks for that kind of thing!).. and ended up getting a Papago PW1.. they are well known in Asian countries and the states for GPS and in car recorders..

I ordered it on ebay for about $230.. (price has dropped with new model release now).. it has full HD video., widescreen etc It came with an 8 gig card but have since purchased a larger card. A friend spent a lot more than I did on his in car recorder and even he has pointed out that my video quality is much higher than his (even though his is supposed to be full HD too)..

here's a link for mine.. Papago P1W Car DVR Camcorder 1920X1080-FULL HD with Free 8G SD Card | eBay but there is now a new one out called the Papago 2X (link: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-PAPAG...ht_6001wt_1396) but if you plan on getting some 4WD footage it may not suit as it automatically data protects the previous, present and next video files when an impact, emergency brake occurs or the car tilts.. my hubby sent an email off to the seller asking if that can be disabled today (will let you know the reply if you are interested) as he wants to purchase that model because it has an inbuilt GPS logger and speed display..

I had to really hunt to get the Papago - as far as I can see there is only one seller of them on ebay and apart from ordering from America I couldn't find any in the country.. I am really happy with the video quality (and I'm a professional photographer so am rather fussy with this kind of stuff).. and I was very impressed with the service from the seller and how fast it was delivered (about 4 days from Taiwan).. anyway there are loads of in car recorders on the market so you may want to do your own research but for what it's worth I really like mine..

And it will probably do the job that you want it to do too.. I was a little fussy with mine as I wanted to ensure that number plates could be read after a nasty incident that a friend had when another car smashed into and wrote off her vehicle and then took off - she didn't see the numberplate so the car was untraceable.

Am in the trucking industry and there are a few guys @ work that have their own cameras. They have saved a couple of the guys jobs because they can show the bosses what exactly happened before.
I'll find out what brand, etc when I ring one of them later today.
I think they were around the $220-$250 mark, but they could be cheaper by now.

    cheers

    camera

I've got a couple, both purchased off eBay.
One cost about $150, the other cost about $35 (plus the SD card).
Both work pretty well and to be honest I can't really tell the differance in picture quality (the more expensive one is a little simpler to use). They both record in VGA so will play on any computer.

I have a GoPro, but use it on my bike. I'm more interested in the Funniest Home Video type footage so I use a chest mount or helmet mount, but I will be able to mount it in the Land Rover if it's ever finished.

The GoPro is probably not the cheapest, but it has all sorts of applications. You can even take it surfing. The casing is waterproof and very tough, or if you want better sound quality you can use the "skeleton" casing which is just as tough but not waterproof.

They are quite good - very acceptable quality - not HD, but quite watchable. Rangieman has one just the same, and took some footage while we were in Wombat the other weekend. We played it back on a projector that night, and even on the big screen (a sheet hung between two trees) it was a good picture. I think a few forum members will be after these now. I have seen them for a lot less than that - check these guys out - 2.5" Car IR HD Night Vision Vehicle Video DVR 270° 6 LED Recorder Camera | eBay

This one only has a 2 Gig card, which is probably why it is cheaper, but you can pick up a larger SD card for a few bucks these days.

Edit - Just bought one myself...

    Cheers - Gav
