    El Cheapo Vehicle Awning

    Hi All

While installing the dog guard in Charlie the other day, my mind wandered to ideas for a vehicle awning which wouldn't cost $, use the tent poles, tarps etc lying around in my the shed and offer more flexibility regarding positioning and removal.

Anyway the following pictures detail the end result. Basically I just had to buy a 9' tent ridge pole ($18), which was strapped in the paddle/fishing rod holders on the roof rack. The tarp (8'x10 in the pic) is secured to the ridge pole with ocy straps and 2 Trailer U shackles. The 8' side is to the vehicle.

It can be easily removed or positioned on either side or the rear of the vehicle in a couple of minutes. I'm guessing that in total it would be only a $100 or so if you had to buy all the bits.

I'm sure that it is not a new idea but I thought I would put it up as I haven't seen anything similar on the forums recently.
