Driving from the UK to Oz

    Chaps & Chappesses

I'm not sure if anyone's seen this, I think I posted it to AULRO sometime ago but there's a chap called Julian Seal, a member of the G4 Owners Club from the UK and he's currently en-route to Oz, driving from the UK via Mongolia in one of the 2009 Challenge D3's that was actually used on the Mongolian recce. I've been a little poor at keeping up with his blog, but he posted to the G4 club forum last week with an update on his location and estimated arrival here in Oz. Last time I spoke to him he wasn't certain on where he'd end up having the D3 shipped to, but it looks like Melbourne now. I have no doubt he'll end up staying here for a couple of weeks whilst the car clears customs etc, but his ETA is early November. From reading the blog, it seems he may have a few good tales to tell. Once in Oz, he's planning on travelling around for a few months before heading back to the UK, I'm not sure which direction but I'm fairly sure he'll be looking for friendly LR owners & possibly repairers along the way, which is why I've posted it here in the General Chat forum rather than the D3 forum.

    His blog is here

Thread on the G4 forum is here

    Round the world

That's in the public part of the forum, so anyone can see it, I don't think you need to register.

    Cheers
    Mike

    Coming to Oz

Hey! I'm here...well at least on the forum.

Thanks very much Mike for posting this.

It will great to meet you and fellow enthusiasts and adventurers as I tour Australia. Maybe you can join me on some of those outback trails?

All I need to do now is enjoy SE Asia and make my way to Melbourne for November and decide which way I go from there and where I want to spend Christmas. I have no idea which is the best route at the moment so if anyone has a sensible plan of how to do it and what I must see or do then I will be grateful.

It's going to be a fun trip but I hope my car gets out of the docks and customs quicker than 2 weeks though!

I will try to keep you updated with dates and places etc but if you want to see more of what my trip and project is about etc please do visit my website, and links to the blog and Facebook etc.

I look forward to meeting you and continuing my drive around the world.

    regards

    Julian

    G'day G4

Why not ship it to Darwin, and then you can drive it down the middle, and work out which way to turn when you get to Adelaide that would give you the choice of Clockwise or Anticlockwise, remembering that Melbourne and most points will be quite warm as it will be coming on to our summer, and DONT FORGET TASMANIA just across Bass Straight and slightly cooler

    cheers

i think that will be one of the problems(summer). if you go anti-clockwise it is shorter if that helps

I'm sure Julian will appreciate any ideas on travelling round Oz from those that have done it. I've barely moved out of Melbourne since arriving last year, so I'm no bloody good for advice

    Asia

    Hi Juddy,

No problem at all. I'm now in Hong Kong but as shipping from Vladivostok I am without Tango for these few weeks.

I will be going from quite soon to travel to Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and on to ****et, Thailand for a spot of diving etc before heading for Melbourne.

Just ask away and I will try to help.

    Best wishes

    Julian
