URGENT - Mechanic needed near Bega

My bad luck whilst travelling continues. At a guess problems with the transfer case. Was driving normally on a dirt road, 10kms after using low range with CDL to drive up a forest trail. Suddenly no drive whatsoever, regardless of gear, range or CDL.

Anyway, I'm about 40km from Began. Any suggestions where to take it?

Is the transfer case in neutral??

Also - maybe the splines/spud shaft that join the gearbox and transfer case may have failed - was a design issue. You can take the large round plate at the back of the tfr case off to get access. Normally the spud goes first but the splines can also. If it is just the spud shaft this can be replaced through the rear of the transfer case (so I am told).

Not good Ranga. Maybe the input side of the transfer - input gear splines or gearbox output shaft.

Hope you get it sorted quickly/cheaply.

Hi Ranga, just saw your call for help.

Is that Bega NSW or Qld?

Is the gearbox mainshaft spinning inside the top gear of the transferbox?

A crude fix to get you back to help, is drill a hole into the crack between the gear and the shaft, then hammer a concrete nail into that hole, that should get you a few extra kilometre's.

Good luck mate, it's your turn now for a bit of assistance and I will do what I can to help.

It's a big wheel that doesn't turn once.

If it's achievable, where would I take it in Cooma?

    Count the teeth

    Hi Ranga

To get the correct parts you need to count the teeth on that top gear.

Is your transfer still the original 1.410:1 high range ratio, if so you need a gear with 26 teeth?

But to get the correct pitch on your teeth, you must read the transfer box serial number taking particular note of the suffix.

This link is a good reference but does have some errors and bits of missing information.
