Ed Freeman fits my description of a Hero. What he did took real guts.

It is sad that, like most things, the term hero has degraded over the years.
WOW, the Hero rescued a puppy from the river or pulled someone from a wreck. That used to be part of being a compassionate human.

People who dangle from a helicopter knowing they will be cut loose if there is a problem, People who work for free confronting Hell on Earth in a wildfire, People who spend their lives giving a stable home to 10s of foster children or working on the streets with the dispossesed.

Great Sacrifice or the certainty of it, is the price of a Hero.

SWMBO has two cousins who served in Nam. One now deceased, died in his late 50's and was war related.

There has recently been a wall built in Seymour, Vic paying tribute to every one who served. We recently went there and payed our respects.

I remember hearing a new Zealand SAS man talk about his time in Vietnam, he said most of the Us military were not much good but the helicopter guys in the gunships were the bravest of the brave and came no matter what the situation and if they were damaged they sent in another one. RIP
