    Well, I lobbed in.....

.....prepared to spend about $800 after perusing the on line catalogue. One of the items on my shopping list was wipers, blades or refills, for a Nissan Nivara; hardly a rare or exotic car. The (work experience?) kid spoke to me in a most rude and condescending manner when I politely expressed my disbelief that there was no availability except from a Nissan dealer. I left offended but with the plastic intact.

Funny you mentioned the kids attitude, recently I went to Repco to buy an idler bearing for my B2600, again not really an exotic car, being a 1995 model it is a bit old I guess. No part even listed in there catalogue and as it is a spot welded assembly unable to change bearing, he couldn't even match it up with some other brand as it was too hard to check dimensions.

Had the same drama with idler pulley on the disco V8, I am sick to death of going into a so called parts store and having to do the parts persons job for them. Repco actually have selection of universal parts pulleys available nd if you look through the catalogue you can match one up but that is too difficult for them. I used to work in parts for a small independent, trade counter 5 phone lines and 2 drivers by myself, but the pay is crap so they get what they pay for!

This waste of space just blew 150% of her weekly pay out the front door.

I ended up getting one from Supercheap, same size as a lot of Toyotas and Nissans, the young guy took a couple of dimensions as you would expect, diameter, bearing shaft size and offset, took all of about 5 minutes

I usually frequent Walkers (Auto One) at Booval, it's owner operated so the long term adult assistants know how to help and the prices are often better than Repco and Supercheap who are both within a stone's throw. I only venture into the latter pair when they have specials on.

Ian, when I bought my County-Isuzu in 2006 I decided to give it a full front to back service for a starting point. I needed a few bits that were not available from Qld. Diesel Spares so went to a nearby Land Rover dealer. To my surprise I was told they didn't even have a parts book for one that "old". Their policy was to only part vehicles that came to the market after their appointment as an LR dealer.

Kev, good service is worth going the extra mile for.

Brian, the Nissan is just over two years old.

Not on car parts, but regarding young kids as shop assistants in chain-hardware stores...
Not mentioning their name, even though they're only in WA. Not Masters or Mitre 10... - Big green box.

Anyway, catalogue special of a RYOBI multi-tool Plus One thingy, with lots of sanders/cutters/gadgets and TWO lithium batteries plus fast charge. $99 the lot, includes nice bag.

Told the young bloke serving me that at that price I was going to chuck the tool, as the batteries etc alone were worth $180, and I don't have a use for it.

He showed me the secret lock-buttons and the end pops off... RYOBI is marketed the overseas as having interchangeable ends, but 'fixed' here in Oz.

$45 later and I've got a ratcheting 3/8 socket driver.

Oh, the end bit I bought is for the AEG equivalent gadget.

Excellent product knowledge, great customer relations, and benefited both self and employer. Up-sale was 45% on original intention. Bonus !!!

    And no, none left.
