Well came home today and the poor girl had scratched herself silly on her face and the swelling was worse, her eye fully closed, so she is in the vets overnight and tomorrow getting the full service.

Will know more tomorrow, my heart sank when they told us that at her age we may want to think about when the end will come..

Not going to be cheap, but she is worth the effort.

Sorry to hear Ean, Hope she comes good. A bluey is worth whatever it costs mate. I am sure you will make the right decision. My last one (actually a red, is buried down the back yard, I still say hello to him when I do the mowing. It was a hard decision to give him the "green dream" but was the kindest thing I could do for him when he could no longer get up out of his bed. Unfortunately everything including us get older and eventually have to face our destiny. But we remember them for the good times

My best wishes Ean, it does not matter if it is pure breed great champion or a cross bred they are unconditional mates and when we lost them there is some emptiness in our houses that it is impossible to fill.
Be strong mate and do the best for her.

I'm not a vet Ean but swelling doesn't always mean infection it could be highly possibly she has been bitten or stung. Bee stings especially can really swell up a face.

The fact she is scratching I eoild think she has had something like that happen or she has had a contact allergic reaction to something.

My friends dog is going through a similar thing vets font know what it is. Is kept under control with antihistamine but as soon as it's off scratches its face dilly in one spot.

The other thing could be an imbedded grass seed but you will soon see discharge starting to set it if it doesn't come out

Does your Palm have spikes that she could have jabbed herself with?
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Well I know why im not a vet... Full marks to dfendr he picked it first post. Poor girl had 2 tooth root abscess's.

She's back home now, minus 2 teeth but playful like a puppy again, swelling is nearly all gone.

Funnily for a dog her age those are her only missing teeth, think bones might be out for a while till her gum heals.

    Cheers Ean
