This sort of setup is fairly standard over here in the UK. That hitch is a 3.5t Dixon Bate jaw. Behind the bumper, there is a thick spreader plate which the pin is bolted through to.

All the Camels have them fitted (a pair on the front) and usually a 5t Dixon Bate jaw on the rear. One of the things they used them for on the Trophy (other than as a strong recovery point) is to tow a disabled vehicle on an 'A' Frame. Each vehicle carried a draw bar with a ring at either end - Take the one form the disabled vehicle & the one from the towing vehicle then "Hey Presto!" you now have an instant A frame. 8)

As a little asside... I hope you realise that the chassis legs are only designed to take 4t :!:

I like that solution, but there is 1 problem, with the recent goings ons about pedestrian safe bull bars, will Mr Policeman say, no, you can't have them??

"Natural selection".... If you step out in front of a large vehicle without looking then I think the gene pool will be a better & safer place!

After all.... WTF would happen if they got hit by a road-train :?: Are they going to be covered by the same legistlation/arguments :?: :?:

....I s'pose the other solution is not to drive on the pavements/side walks.

Yup ... I've done a fair bit of research on them ... on the G4 UK spec Defender the protrusion is not a problem because of the winch bracket but it will certainly be a problem on the standard Defender bar we get in AU. I got pricing from Dixon Bate but couldn't justify the cost. Eventually ended up buying one from a Land Rover dealer in South-Africa (favourable exchange rate  ) .. it's heavy duty though ... so might use it as a tow jaw in the rear.

IMHO... I'd stick the 5t jaw on the rear. It's a similar design to the 3.5t jaw but bigger... It' also got holes for 4x bolts rather than just 2. You'll also find that the spacing of these holes perfectly line up with the holes in your rear cross member.

Thats one cool set up, would it bolt onto a TJM winch bullbar?

As for the regs on bullbars. The editor of 4x4 Aus, mentioned a mate of his getting a defect notice on his 100series cruiser cause his driving lights protruded forward of the bullbar. Matt

I'm assuming it would bolt on to the end of the chassis,,

if thats where your bullbar is bolted to then yes---
