Unless there was some manner of Compartment Syndrome occurring, it seems drastic.

Having had both knees or more properly kneecaps reattached to the muscles in my thighs, it sounds to me like this is what is to be done.

In people younger than 40 the kneecap usually separates from the tendon at the bottom, over 40 at the top .

So my guess is that the doctor has to find and fish out the muscle end , drag it up to the kneecap and stitch it up.

The longer it is left the more the muscles contract so time is the essence.

Only thing I have in common with Bill Clinton.

even with comparment releases I had bilaterals done on both legs and my scars from that are maybe 2 inches long on each leg.

If Id needed them on the calf muscles as well ID have had one more matching scar on each leg.

She is seeing the Doctor again on Tuesday, if he is satisfied that the graze on her knee wont be a problem then he might operate on Wednesday.

I have not tried to find info on the net about this type of radical surgery as we will find out more after the job is done.

But, I have me own theory ?

With an incision that long it would expose the whole leg bone, then without damaging anything surrounding the knee, the top and bottom of the leg could be seperated enough possibly for a long lasting artificial cartilage of some discription to be inserted to replace the damaged one ?

Once closed and healed should be okay perhaps rather than a knee replacement that has a limited life ?

Does that sound weird or stupid, who knows.
    We shall find out.
It's interesting because of the nature of the injury and the radical and invasive treatment that for me is unheard of.

I am concerned because the little girl in trouble is the birthday girl featured in my "Yesterday " thread.

I have never met her but I feel that we share a small bond.

Far from being an expert, but what I do know, or think I know is this.

The two halves of the knee are held together by four ligaments, so even if you stripped all the skin off the leg the knee would still stay together.

I am interested on the outcome of this.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."
