I thought Jorge must have been short for Jorgen (a spam eating bloody Viking). Instead I find he's Portuguese. I love their Chorizo.
Cheers, Billy.
Keeping it simple is complicated.
Big fat wave from black defender heading towards New Norfolk on the Lyell Highway. I was in the 109 Truck Cab.

I have now reverted to my special Defender wave, rarely get a wave from any LR, especially Defenders, got a wave and a smile from a D4 the other day, I think he found my wave amusing, certainly got his attention, which is the whole point.
So if you're in the Sydney/Wollongong area and you get this from a grey D4
Be sure an wave back

We have just completed a 6000km run through central Aus, and I can confirm that the Land Rover wave is becoming extinct. We got waves most people in all brands when initiated by us, but the number of snubbs from LR drivers was disappointing. I know that we were in a lowly D2, but I can observe as follows:
D4 - Seldom even notice you
D3 - Occasional recognition, but probably only if dirty and well travelled
D2 - Cmon bretheren - it is not that hard
D1 - Better, but still lame
Deefer - fergetit
Series - Fall out of the car waving
We even got good consistent waves from newish LC200s
By our reckoning, the LR wave is going the way of defender production!
I got a wave and wary smile from a D4 at Birkenhead point a couple of weeks ago.
Cheers, Billy.

I'll wave at defenders, across four lanes of traffic, sometimes even get a return wave.
I have trouble these days distinguishing between white landcruiser utes with bullbars and defenders. Sometimes my wave might be last minute.
With all the perenties in civilian hands these days you need to see the number plate before possibly wasting a perfectly good wave.

98% of all Land Rovers built are still on the road.
The other 2% made it home.
Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.
The wave in general seems to have gone the way of the dodo, not just the Landy Wave. Truckies always use to wave to each other, now it's down to 30-40%, usually the old blokes. Motor cyclists nodded to fellow riders, but Goldwing nuts waved. Most wingnuts still acknowledge each other but, for the rest of the riding population it's down to 10-20%.
I reckon it's an age thing, the young people of today are too self absorbed. I know there'll be howls of 'generalization', I also know that not all young people are that way; our own Disco Muppet and Maxi Me from Williams are stand-out exceptions.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
In every MGB I've owned, I've waved to other MGs and received a wave back (or had to respond to one I've received).
Now I drive a modern MG (2005 IS modern for MG) and I don't get any waves at all. For a while, I thought it was because my ZR is so rare no-one notices but I have passed other Z-cars with no wave back and it appears the same occurs among the MGF community who are a lot more noticeable.
So it's not just Landys. When I get my Series 1 on the road, I'll be one of those trying to fall out waving... as mentioned above, it's one of the good things about owning a vehicle.
