There's a few simple explanations.
1. Originally the 'Land Rover' wave was just Series Landy owners, because that's all there was. This became the Series / Defender wave, in recognition of all original iconic shaped Land Rover vehicles.
2. It's only become a general Land Rover wave recently and most Disco and Rangie drivers still don't yet get it. So no surprise to me at so few Disco or Rangie waves.
3. Then of course some people will never get it, or they think they're too cool for school.
As a welded on Defender driver I wave at all other Series/Defender drivers... and I also wave back at all other Land Rover drivers if they wave at me. I find this approach makes more sense, is true to the spirit of the original iconic Series / Defender wave and also reduces disappointment.
Driving down Warrigul Rd this morning, passed a silver Puma 110,....We were in Wifey's Audi S3, put my hand out & waved,....got a honk back!!
Pickles.
...silver Puma 110 drivers are the best! 😎😊
Don't ever give up waving.
Most Disco and Rangie drivers have no idea there's a wave thing....but Defender owners by and large, do.
I love a good wave back as much as the next man but the part I really enjoy is the eye-rolling look on the face of my passenger or even just someone random in traffic who sees the two drivers waving and you can clearly see a seething jealously in their expression.
I was on the way back from Mulgo the other weekend and shortly before getting back on the M5, I passed a white Puma 110 going in the opposite direction that had 'Mission Trailers' emblazoned down the driver's door.
Full arm out of the window waving from both of us as we passed. Magnificent.

Its true, most Defender owners wave, but very few Disco owners do, but some have shocked me by waving back.
Chris
There's a disco 4 and a Freelander in my Street. The disco always waves. He's friendly and we've shared a bottle more than once. The Freelander has a pool so he doesn't even wave to his Mum.
Cheers, Billy.
Keeping it simple is complicated.
I find this whole exclusive wave thing amusing, like there's some sort of rivet counting secret hand shaking, bearded, cardigan wearing men, smoking a pipe club, driving around waving at each other.
Oh look Roger, there's another one, tally-ho chaps
If you don't wave at those that haven't caught on yet, then of coarse they won't wave back.
I just so happened to have the opportunity to have a lone of a Defender for a week to drive to work and back(45ks each way) now I see heaps of Defenders every day, in the Disco I waved at them all, got maybe 1 or two waves back, mostly other Discos, so when I had the Defender, I thought this should be fun, I'll get heaps now, wrong, 1 Defender, and the Discos that waved at me when I was in the Disco I even pulled up beside one guy and gave the wave, he turned to his passenger and said something and drove off
So I reckon it's not just Discos that don't wave, Defender drivers don't either, Helensburgh is full of Landy's, never had a wave from anyone, Defender or not, even when I was in the Defender.
BTW thanks again Ian and Lou
Baz.
Cheers Baz.
