I was thinking about a few of the recent posts on insurance, and it prompted me to query whether any insurer provides the option of you retaining a write-off/wreck? Old mate around the corner ran a trucking business for many years and used to insure for 80% of value, which gave him retention rights.

For many of us whose cars are worth more than they can be insured for, this might be a worthwhile option to explore - anyone have any knowledge on this?

It also occurred to me it might be handy to have a checklist of items you want covered, eg
market or agreed value,
insured for off road (gazetted or otherwise), on private property,
acceptable coverage mods (legal of course) eg reMAPs?
adequate accessories cover
adequate towing cover,
Under and after warranty,
LR parts replacement eg windscreens,
and of course the doozy - excess!
