    Unusual anyone else?

    Whilst going down the hill to get lotto I noticed a loud clunk upon braking, stopping the vehicle and looking underneath I could see nothin unusual. Promptly returning home I jacked it up removed the wheels to search for the offending clunk.
    The clunk turned out to be the brake caliper riding up and hitting the alloy wheel under brakes..yes gents the bottom caliper retaining bolt had wriggled loose and fell out and the loose top bolt was acting as the swivel for the offending fully floating caliper..
    Solution was a new bolt from the wreckers and some quality loctite...
    What other vehicle would offer such cunning puzzles than a Landrover.. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img]
    So go check your retaing bolts guys just incase..

    Have seen that happen before so I check mine are tight, funny though there are no spring washers on those bolts.

    Hi Guys
    Ive heard of this happening and the caliper fliping out and wedgeing onto the rim then locking the wheel up.Not nice,especially if its a front wheel.

    as mentioned, why they dont put spring washers on at the factory really amazes me...
    but then again, these come out the same factory that installed a hub seal backwards on my old Defender (which was new when purchased) :roll:

    I was the second owner of my '86 RR. The headlights never seemed that good despite being halogens. One night I drove it up to the garage and I noticed the beam pattern looked wrong. (The garage is in the back yard and not used for storing cars - that's why I had never previously noticed the beam pattern on the doors).

    The pattern was for LHD headlights.

    I checked with the previous owner and he'd never replaced the lights. Fitting new ones made a big difference. I shudder to think about the lights dipping to the right - aiming at oncoming cars.

    I remember when I bought an SD1, around 1980, arguably the worst car I have ever had, a couple of months after purchase I noticed that the front seats were both different upholstery patterns, wasn't easy to notice but was different. I had it changed at the next service.

    Brake caliper is not that uncommon.
    2 Volvo's have had the bolts work loose, mind you that was months after i did a caliper change.

    Why?? Loctite was not used again.

    when they were low enough it would just spit them out when the brakes were hit in reverse......


    my car is making a noise when i brake.....it was the sound of the pistons on the disk..... 8O</span>
