FYI,
It appears to me and my resident Chinese expert to be somewhere on the outskirts of Beijing. Thats why the mobiles and suits.

Just goes to show why I dont own a Jeep. A bit of thought and a shovel and it would have been an easy recovery. I can not believe they decided to tow it through the pond. That would definately be a no brainer. Obviously lots of moneyand no brains for recovery or choice of vehicle.

You know, probably not as expensive as you may think.
Beijing Jeep was one of the first JVs in China, and the US manager ended up writing a book about it. Beijing Jeep hs built 100,000s of cherokees . They are everywhere
There is rumoured to be 30,000 FAKE Jeep Cherokees getting around.
IE the component suppliers decided that they didn't really need JEEP in the equation so they got together and built their own fake ones.
Parts will be super cheap and the usual Chinese Knock off crap.
