I believe you need to fit a bar behind the rear seat to attach the mounts. There are no built in anchors.
This was discussed at some stage, you might find it on the old forum.
Hi everyone,
Has anyone put a baby seat in a Defender? Any tips, how do you attach it?
thanks

Thanks go to abaddonxi for all the info... he went through all the pain for his defender 130.
Check the links above or contact him if you've got the 130.
If you've got the 110, it's easier.
There's an already engineer-approved/tested solution for the 110 Defender, called a "white bar". I guess it's similar to a CRAB bar which is a standard fitting solution for commercial vehicles, people movers, and 4wds that don't have other solutions. The CRAB bar has 3 anchor points to match up with the seat positions. The white bar is designed to specifically suit the Defender 110.
You'll realise once you start talking to these 'fitting station' guys they either know about the defender or they don't... if they don't, move on and find someone else.
Contact these guys to get more detail http://www.mobilityengineering.com.au/contact.shtml
I ended up talking to a guy at 'town and country' in Beverly Hills here in Sydney and he got the same info from one of his sources (... most probably these guys in Hornsby).
In any case, I was lucky enough to purchase mine second hand in the last few days from Bushie... so I'll be fitting it this w/e. Here's a link to what it looked like in Bushies Defender.

The picture that the town and country guy had was exactly the same.

 2005 Defender 110
The short answer is if you have a 110 it is the white crab bar. If you have a single cab or a 130CC it is a little more complicated.
Defenders are classed as trucks rather than passenger vehicles and as such aren't obliged to provide anchor points.
The aluminium doesn't make installing after market solutions easy, either.
If you want more info, etc. PM me.
Cheers

Bluefender - I've got a bar in my back shed out of a Defender wagon. My kids are out of baby seats. Email me if you're interested. I'm near Newcastle NSW.

Its easier to sell your baby and no I don't mean the Defender.

We had the same drama with a Pajero some years back. The white pole is an easy solution. They are reasonablly easy to install. It just may mean some decent plates may need to be needed top and bottom of the aluminium. It may also be possible to get some plates welded to the chassis for attachment (probablly will have to be engineered).

I have a child's seat in the middle of the back bench seat. Have hooked the standard lap belt across the seat like normal. Have installed a shoulder harness that goes up over the child seat, and loops through the lap belt. The other end is attached to the bolts that hold the seat belts to the floor. This works well for my 4.5 year old. He has become very adept at putting the harness over his head, and I still buckle the lap belt to make sure everything is secure. The middle position also gives him a great view out the front, and sides, along with some leg room as our front seats are all the way back.
Can post some pics if you are interested.
