    Thanks John,

The shaft "should" be right, its a D2 d/c straight out of the bubblewrap.

Going to have to put it on the dyno methinks, to track it down.

    Regards

Now you mention it, I think that was noted before! You're right - that should rule that problem out.

I wonder if it is just something loose that is amplifying a natural vibration period that is normally not a problem. Things such as exhaust pipe mounts or even engine mounts come to mind, but could actually be some body part, or could be the engine, gearbox or exhaust touching the body when the power train rotates a little on its mounts as torque increases. Difficult to guess without being able to experience your vibration.

As Jon said - if you do a MILD shave (like Rick and I have done to ours) you only remove material from the outside.

Some people shave more off, and then weld a flat plate back on. This onlr reduced the oil capacity a small fraction (the sals holds 2.5L!!!) - and it would be still 2-2.4L after most heavier shave jobs.

There are a few people in the US who have done more extreme shaves - either machined the crownwheel down so you can shave more or done a "mohawk shave" (looks like an upside down mohawk - only low bit is a narrow section where the crownwheel is). These options give HEAPS of clearance, but reduce the oil capacity quite a bit - these options are usually only done on offroad-only vehicles though, and they don't seem to have problems.

    This is a (home-job) mohawk shave on a 14 Bolt (slightly bigger than a Salisbury/Dana 60)

The lower section has been put back in place to show how much clearance you gain.

Max I've got a similar thing. I've even tried a DC rear shaft which hasn't helped. I'm booked in to Davis Landys now to get the transfer case looked at (amongst other things), to try getting the TC output bearings replaced or whatever hoping that the vib is coming from there.
    Cheers

Dunno whether its still in the diff, or elswhere. I'll try another set of wheels & tyres tonight.

Both diffs done recently. Both propshafts done a few weeks ago. Both trailing arm & radius arm bushes are shagged, I was leaving these until after an upcoming desert trip. Would they cause a vibration at speed?

    TIA

    Max,
A wheel slightly out of balance will seam ridiculously bad if there are loose bushes. I would look no further until all bushes are in good working order. I've been there many times in my 2 RRCs over the years.
