Cool I am Complete

Well the not so long wait is finally over. My dealer was getting sick of me hassling him - "is it here yet? is it here yet? is it here yet? is it here yet?..." Not to mention the rest of the forum who have had to put up with me going mildly stir-crazy over the past few weeks.

Got the call yesterday - you can pick it up right NOW or wait until tomorrow. That was a no brainer. I almost didn't even remember to put pants on (one of the benefits of working from home). Then I stupidly did the journey home, in the pouring rain, and peak hour traffic, with my offside mirror pointing at the gutter, before remembering that I hadn't tranferred my insurance over from the old one

Now I am sure everybody is getting a bit tired of stock 07 Defender pictures, but so what - here are some more...

Talking to my wife we discussed the fact that all of the new "features" in this car, such as good A/C, and a full dash, and... I don't know what else actually, would just totally fail to impress any of our friends since they have been standard on cars since the eighties!

I didn't realise that the centre fixed vents blow Air Conditioned air all the time without any adjustment (other than switching the A/C off entirely). Consequently my left arm, which spends a lot of time resting on the gear stick, went numb from the cold on the drive home.

And here are those normal back seats - another new feature that will really only impress us older Defender owners.

Just to prove I didn't pick it up secondhand... although I'm sure I don't live 89km from the dealers. I must have taken a few detours on the way home

Now here's a new one. I have had a Defender wheel chock lying around here for years and I never knew where to put it (Aaron, I have a present for you by the way). Looks like they have found a proper home for it, and the wheel brace. They have even put small foam squares around the battery box to stop them rattling

Here's another engine shot. It's a bit like porn, you can look at the same basic thing a million times...

So there you have it. Another new Defender on the road. It will be available for weddings, Barmitzvahs, whatever... Now I just have to work out where and when to start destroying it off-road. Of course this couldn't have come at a crazier time of year workwise so that may have to wait a few weeks.

Believe it or not, they are sitting on the floor in my laundry waiting to be fitted. It was a compromise - and I did get a full tank of fuel too.

Just an observation regarding the new instrument cluster. I think this may prove problematic for hard users. The full perspex cover is sure to suffer scratching and dust ingress more than the old separate dials did. I wonder what a replacement is likely to cost?
