I've been meaning to ask - since you have had your new Defender for over a month now, has nothing gone wrong???

No busted diffs, gearbox, TC, ABS, instrument cluster ??? Surely something major has to be about to pack it in based on the threads I have read from the UK. Or maybe there are in fact only four or five dodgy new Defenders there and the amount of whinging is just out of proportion .

Well no - nothing has gone wrong - but there again, I've only had it for 2000km I've done some offroad driving in it too - all great fun and no dramas whatsoever. I have had all the usual stuff that I see other 07 owners are getting - swarf etc. I just got the vac out and cleaned it up.

The engine is really "freeing up" and I'm getting 10l/100km.

The shakedown trip (in preparation for the big lap next May) is happening at Christmas which will be it's first big test - we're taking Grover down to Victoria via the Warrumbungles and Willandra National Parks - back home via the Snowy Mts and Barrington Tops.

If anything crops up I'll let you (all) know.

Good to hear. I must admit, based on what I've read in the UK forums I am in a constant state of mild paranoia expecting the drivetrain to fall out or something. But looking back I could actually only count five guys who have been having all kinds of trouble and got to thinking, maybe it is just these five.

We need to have a comparison meeting at some stage. That way we can work out what little noises are standard on an 07 Defender. It's all so different, the starter motor sound, the shutdown sound, the various engine & gearbox sounds when cruising, or on overrun etc.

I agree - that would be a good idea - I freaked out at first when, after starting, the starter motor makes a "burp" sound - I'm guessing (hoping) that's normal! Well - Austral said it was, which doesn't mean much.

I've done 3000k and am getting the same fuel figures. I live at Yackandandah NE Vic (Near Beechworth) If you are near there on your trip feel free to contact me and we can compare 07 Fenders or I can catch up with you
