I've only used mine a few time and have had no problems, BUT if you buy one pull the gearbox section down clean out the crap the Chow's call grease and pack it chockers with a good quality grease, I used Marine grease as it doesn't absorb water as readily as normal grease.
The wire rope at 8.3 mm does not have a Safe Working Load (SWL) of 4310kg (9500lb), but about 850 Kg SWL, the 4310kg advertised is the Guaranteed Breaking Strain of 8.3mm 7 strand wire rope and you dont want to be operating a winch with a wire rope at the limit of it's design, the winch will probably pull more with no problems, but the rope is not up to it, the wire rope on my winch is 11mm, remember the SWL load of a winch is determined by the SWL of the wire rope used, Regards Frank.

I got mine almost a year ago, and it has worked for everything I have needed if for. I wanted some extra insurance when I took the Defender up to Cape York. Didn't like the possibility of having to hand winch a fully loaded vehicle out of crock infested waters. I found it hard to justify the cost of the WARN ones. Mine has mainly been used to pull loads towards my Defender. I pulled the back of my house off during demolition, and pulled various logs off tracks. I also pull my fully loaded trailer up a slight grade, and into my garage, so I can hook it on to the Land Rover. I can't back all the way out to hook it up with the roof rack on. For my purposes, it has been flawless. Also I don't have to worry about having $1800+ sitting on the front bull bar outside in front of my house at night. The car has been broken into in the past.

The Aldi winch comes with a 2 yr warranty, and they will take back just about anything, for any reason. They seem to work OK and as others said, just repack yourself.
If I was looking for another winch, I'd buy one.

They also have a $99 compressoer (Bushranger rip off) for sale next week too.

if you answer yes, then buy a cheap winch..... when it fails... and it will..... i hope your not on one of my trips....

You can get an Ironman off the net for about $750, Australian made, 3 year warranty and waterproof control box.

i thought that would of been the same for all winches......i didn't think anyone sold a winch as water tight!!

You know what,

When it comes time for me to buy a winch, i probably would buy one of these. I know that you get what you pay for and if it turns out to be a lemon well that's the way it is. History is littered with stories of cheap equipment failing whilst in use, and history is littered with stories of expenisve equipment doing the same thing.

I would say that any winch is better than no winch. Some people (like me) have a hard time justifying 1,000 bucks or so for a winch, not to mention convincing the better half.

I read in a few other replies that blokes have purchased them, changed the grease and other bits, maybe some regular TLC and even rig up a weather cover or something, I don't know. So I reckon if you need a winch and you can't afford any other model then go ahead and get one ...... I would
