Hunter Gas Technologies - LPG injection system for diesel engines
Here is a dyno for 300tdi from the manufacturers web site
DIESEL GAS AUSTRALIA
Personally I like V8's so i'm completely unbiased![]()
I've been feeling like a I needed more go from the 300tdi and it already has a larger intercooler and new turbo so I'm thinking time to go the Diesel gas route.
I have done a search and didn't get what I wanted so feel free to post more threads up as I may of missed some.
It is running 33's and I am going down to 31's I think but I still want a bit power.
I have rung up a couple of places who install it and have found it impossible to get much good information off these people because unlike most mechanics I have dealt with these guys don't just chat about the product. they seem to think it sells itself or maybe they are not friendly, I do not know. I have looked in to it previously and this was the same thing I got last time so I gave up but now am more determined.
So, are their preferred installers?
Is their price discrepancies or different systems I should be looking at?
If people have bad stories please let me know.
Or dare I say should I not do it at all? Should I be going down a different path?
I was quoted about $4500 from the mob in Kingswood (western Sydney). Then a 2 grand cash back.

The Diesel Gas Australia info is a copy of the data from DieselGas Technologies website, Dieselgas Technologies - LPG injection for diesel engines... which is the mob in Kingswood. DGT in Kingswood no longer install DieselGas Australia (DGA) equipment. DGT install the Sequent II stuff - the same as Hunter Gas.
Confused?

Oh wait. So The Kingswood mob have made their own system but use to use someone elses?
I have just noticed on the Diesel gas Australia site that they do have NSW installers. The site has a bit of a poor lay out.
I'm pleased they have installers 'cause I thought they looked worthwhile to look in to but they seemed (at the time) to only be in S.A.

Yes.
Hunter Gas/Diesel Gas Technologies claim their system gives more power than the older DGA system.
If you look at Hunter Gas you'll see this dyno graph for a 300 Tdi Defender - which is 6 bhp (at the wheels) than the DGA system shown below this graph. The BHP curve is also flatter on the Hunter Gas system.
One last comment, both Hunter gas and Diesel Gas Technologies are LR specialists. The blokes from Hunter Gas are also Modern Motors, ex-LR dealer at Dungog) and DGT are KLR Automotive. Derek Watkins from Hunter has his own dyno for tuning.

Thanks Ron. I'm starting to think from reading about the internoodle that I can't go wrong with either system. However, The concern of; will the gas stuff the engine is still in my mind but I guess I'll never know unless I try.
It sounds like I'm going to be up for a lot of money which ever mob I go with too so.... unless one convinces me otherwise it might be Hunter Gas I think.
Thanks,
Xavier.
I dont mean to throw a spanner in but even though I like diesel gas and I think it is a great mod, you might want to put in some 4.11 gears in the diffs first, it would be a bit cheaper and the performance is a huge jump on standard with 31" to 32"s and is like standard with 35"s as well as pretty good economy but you lose top speed (not really a prob for most Tdi owners anyway).
You could more than likely save around $500 going this way first and if you then still want more power and economy go the gas route and have the best of both worlds with freh diffs to boot.
Just a thought but Im just waiting until the price of the systems comes down a bit (if it ever does) as at the moment, it will take me forever pay back $2500 in fuel savings and the Hp isnt a huge bother to me.
