Thats nothing. Either A current affair, or today tonight the other night had a segment about people whose brand new Jeeps had spontaneously ignited & burnt to the ground.

Lots of camera phone video footage of burning Jeeps. You know why there's only one Jeep? - the rest have caught fire.

Glad to hear your Defender won the day.

Wouldn't worry too much. You know what Today TOnight is like. They ran the same story last year & a few years ago.

    Best of luck with it

Just Empty Every Pocket usually covers it! I should know

As you would imagine, there has been a lot of to-ing and fro-ing on the Jeep forum, but it seems....

Hard work in sand may cause an automatic JK Wrangler's AT fluid to boil and spit the ATF dipstick, the unfortunate consequence of this is it then runs down onto the catalytic converter and presto instant barbecue.

Having said that, consensus from the footage and photos seems to be that a) the tyres were at highway pressure in sand and 2) the ESP was left on combining to give the AT a bad case of apoplexy.

The comment in the story saying "oh the sand was quite hard" accompanied by a photo showing hard packed waterline sand, yet footage of the burning car showed it to be in cut up, soft looking stuff.

Jeep might need to look at the re-location of the dipstick for the AT or fit a larger AT cooler for the Aus market, but forum posts from auto JK driver's playing in the dunes north of Perth indicate they haven't had an issue.

I feel for them in what would have been a frightening experience, but it's not a Barina - read the manual people!

Glad I have a manual TJ though...
    Cheers
