    Strength of a kitten.

    Another Stevo68 projects thread.

I've been getting around to changing the oil in the gearbox of the 110 for too long now. Yesterday afternoon the perfect moment came up, going to dinner at my mum's place, got there early, nose to the curb parking and I ran the front wheels up on to the nature strip, lots of space to get underneath.

I've successfully made a mess of changing the oil in the gearbox a couple of times before, so this time I was going all out. I decided I'd drop the chassis cross-member, so no chance of covering everything in old oil.

All goes fine, all the bolts come out with no trouble. Of course I can't move the thing. And I had only very limited tools with me, so nothing to force it out with.

No worries, I give up on that idea, put all the bolts back in. Instead I'll cut something into the right shaped funnel and do it that way.

Next thing is to just loosen the drain plug, just a little. Now I thought that the way to go is to make sure you can get the fill plug open before you open the drain plug, but I must not have been thinking quite straight.

Anyway, that doesn't matter, because I can't get the drain plug to budge a fraction.

I've been a bit sick lately, and apparently all that effort of undoing and doing those eight bolts took it out of me.

Absolutely shattered, could barely get the tools back into the back.

Had a long rest and a beer.

How's that for useless tutorial Stevo?

    Curse my feeble arms.

    Cheers
    Simon

How very appropriate for Australia Day

I must be un-Australian. I worked yesterday and didn't have any lamb or alcohol either

Don't feel bad about that. When I worked at the Dealer we had a chassis spreader to get them out!

If only I could use the same excuse for the drain plug.

My Rangie has an LT77 gearbox (two drain plugs). Last time I changed the oil I could only get one of the plugs out and I am a big boy. They can jam in there very tightly!
