    "Glind" Hot Water

Does anyone have one of these installed on a TD5. Have been thinking of investing in one and looking for some thoughts and comments on what seems to the best options on what to use (Glind or other) and how/where to mount on the vehicle.

    Cheers RJH.

I was discussing this very subject with a friend over the weekend. We watched someone having a morning shower with one of those plumbed in showers at a camp ground ( not sure if it was a Glind ).

They ran the vehicle stationary for 10 minutes to warm up the water ( which doesn't seem all that eco friendly to me). I realise the idea is to have your shower after a long drive, but who's always ready for a shower then ?

Also, we thought that because there are more pipes and bits plumbed in to your cooling system, seems its just more to go wrong and increase your risk of coolant loss.

We use one of those small portable shower heads and 12V pumps that you drop in to a bucket of water. Used with a smal gel cell battery we can set up our shower tent anywhere. It takes 5 minutes to boil a billy of water and mix it thrrough a 10 litre bucket of cold water. 10 litres is more than enough for a good shower.

Those coleman hot water units look pretty good - I've been eyeing one off for myself! Self contained so you can put it anywhere and instant hot water. Best thing, you don't need to mess with your engine or run the vehicle to warm up first.

the glind is good.... 5 minutes warm up and i normally need to run the truck each day to top up the deep cycle battery for the fridge and lights so kill to birds with one stone.

about to post a question in the isuzu section on where to plumb the water inlet and outlet on the 4bd1 as the last trip away the glind was sorely missed as we used the $20 pump in a bucket and it was a okay but no where near as convienent.

They don't work very well on the TD5, I tried my one off the Explorer I had, it worked well on the Explorer, the reason it doesn't work on the TD5 is mainly because of the way the cooling system works, it won't keep the water hot long enough for a shower (now I'm talking TD5 Disco) I don't know if the Defender would be different or not, the Disco has climate control, all of the new diesels have the same problem, the flow rate is different in newer diesels.

I can tell you that the best place to mount it is the metal pipe that joins the heater hose to the top radiator hose along the passenger side of the engine.

It's a bugger because they are great devices.

( which doesn't seem all that eco friendly to me). Sheesh I drive a 4X4
Thanks to all for your comments. Information is what I'm looking for, good and bad.
I have used up until now, an old heater core out of a car that I have adapted so I can hook up a pump and hose, place over the gas burner or into the fire which does a good job. However it's a pain to pack and carry. Not big just needs another box to lug around. The Glind system just seems a little more convienent. I'm just a litttle concerned about plumbing it into the TD5 Defender.
    Cheers RJH

Im working on this and I think the best place Might be in place of the EGR cooler but it doesnt get a lot of flow...

I was planning on converting my EGR to a storage heater setup but fozzy came a long and most of the td5 plans have been shelved.
