Tourist Bus 4X4 rolls on Fraser Island

A vehicle with an extremely high centre of gravity on Fraser Island, the vehicle is of a type that usually carries cargo but now fitted with a bus body.

People should not get confused by the anti-4X4 hype that the media has portrayed in the title of the article and incidents with vehicles used by private individuals.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I assumed it was 11 backpackers in a troopie, ABC report does not state a tourist operation.
    Sad thing to happen regardless.

I hate to say it but Im not surprised if its a troopy with backpackers. I saw so many of them when I was there and the people driving just had no clue how to drive a 4wd let alone a troopy on sand!!

I would have helped recover at least 3-4 troopies cause they still had tyres at 45psi.

But yes, still a terrible thing.

I have no time for the people who see the answer to all problems as being to either regulate to the point of removing all the enjoyment or totally ban an activity, as a means to stop people from hurting or killing themselves...
However with these Hire vehicles I am starting to think that they should be limited to, say 5 foward facing seats and no Roof rack or tie down points.
Up here we seem to spend alot of time cleaning up after these things fall of the road. Many of them don't make it past the first 90 deg bend before they fall over.
All the Army "white fleet" Troopies that I have used have been restricted as above and they have a cargo barrier between the load space and the passengers................

The hire companies specifically do not allow them to lower their tyre pressures as it is a perceived contributor to roll-over risk. The backpackers are also required to watch a training video prior to taking possession of the hire vehicle, (for what that's worth).

You cannot legislate for the lowest common denominator. It's called natural selection.
