    OME Defender Bullbar

Am I correct in saying some years a Land Rover offered a Steel Bar? If so does any one know who made this?

I believe so and I believe it was made by ARB. The extreme came standard with it IRC.

It looks the same as the genuine ARB except for the fairlead attachment and number plate attachment:

Btw - the reinforcing for the winch seems a bit flimsy to me. Has anyone ever had any issues using one as a winch bar?

The early (Tdi ones) were made by ARB, the TD5 ones were produced by someone else.
Scouse (or someone else) knew who it was, it's on a thread here somewhere.
The Tdi ones used VW Golf indicators, the later TD5 ones were by an Italian company and hard to get.

Ben, I know what you are saying re bracing, and to be honest I've only ever used mine for straightening fences, pulling cows out of dams, rolling trees over, etc, never a full on, hard core recovery up a difficult hill.

At least the ARB and TJM bars have cheap locally available parts.
I tried to get a replacement indicator lens for the LR bar that came with my TD5 extreme and LR parts told me that they only sell the WHOLE indicator module!!!!
I went to ARB and TJM initially thinking it was one of their bars that LR had fitted... but no it came from somewhere else and the parts cost an arm and a leg.

I mean really...for lights mounted IN a bull bar you should be able to buy replacement plastic bits as every time you bump something you risk cracking/chipping/destroying the lenses!!

Needless to say I resorted to glue/silastic until I totally destroyed the indicator and then I replaced the whole unit.

Australian bullbars are well developed world renowned and I only had the LR one because it came with the new vehicle as part of the "extreme" package...but I guess I ended up getting what I paid for.
