Thread: Which Island? Stradbroke, Moreton or Fraser? Or ….. ???

    Which Island? Stradbroke, Moreton or Fraser? Or ….. ???

    G'day All

    I need to pick peoples brains for what they reckon is the go …

    With the Xmas holiday booked and to keep myself amused whilst doing late shifts at work I’m onto planning our next trip at Easter time next year.

    With the Disco now on LPG we are planning on visiting Cath’s sister in Brissie leaving from Melbourne. Whilst we are up there I wouldn’t mind a spot of camping at one or two of the islands…. But which ones and in what order?

    So this is what im thinking:

    Probably 3 weeks away, there will be 2x adult’s 2x little monsters so will probably take 2 days each way travelling up, or maybe even 3 days.

    I’ll be taking the Podtrailer trailer with us with all gear in it and although it isn’t an off-road trailer, it is very light so it should do okay on the sand?

    Now I’ve had a look when the QLD school holidays are and it appears that they have only 1 week, which starts just before Easter and is during the 2nd week of the Vic School holidays.

    Now which island is better to stay at during the busy School holidays and Easter period?

    Which island is better out of the busy Easter period?

    Where are the best places to camp?

    How many days at each Island?

    My current thoughts are 2 islands Straddie during the Easter rush and Fraser out of the peak time?

    Every island, 4wd park, camping ground, 4wd track is booked out or at capacity over easter. but if you go the week b4 or week after you wont have any trouble. eg/ I goto the william ck races each year w/e b4 easter drive from Qld to SA and back on wed/thurs b4 easter and there are virtually no cars on the road. I stay home over easter and watch the road toll rise

    Righteo....looking at dates

    Public Holidays - Good Friday 2 April, Easter Saturday 3 April & Easter Monday 5 April

    QLD School Holidays - Thursday 1 April to Monday 12 April

    NSW School Holidays - Thursday 1 April to Monday 19 April

    VIC School Holidays - Friday 26 March to Monday 12 April


    Hmmm... okay lets say im heading up before or after Easter Where do you reckon i should book and for how long?
