Hell house

Bit of a vent.

I'm currently living in a unit (have been for some months now) and recently agreed to lease it for another six months. To cut a long story short, a few things have started to work out quite badly... it's on a ****house block, hard against the foothpath flanked on all sides by other high density housing, and either a retirement home or housing commission opposite (which is quite surprising because its a wealthy/well reputed suburb). There is always drunk kids on friday and saturday nights go past and pull all the trees out, smash things and **** in the streets. My car has been urinated on, keyed, graffitied etc because there is no off street parking. The neighbour had her car broken into, thankfully mine hasn't been. The neighbours behind are serious bogans and have a huge dog, but only a patio/yard 3x4 metres at a guess, its always barking but I would be too locked up like that.

I've come to a point where I actually dread coming home. It's very strange I've never felt like this about a place before, almost feel frightened.

Is there any serious ramafications of terminating a lease early? I thought I'd try to see it out but honestly I don't think I could wait. What would others do about it?

Check your lease.

In NSW, Residential Tenancy Tribunal.

Dunno what your rights are, but usually seems to work out to you finding someone to move in, or covering the rent until next tenant moves in.

If you're lease has ended and you're on week to week you might just give notice and shift.

If you have renewed your lease and want to break it then you will need to pay costs of advertising and probably pay rent until someone takes up the place and moves in.

What he said. In most states you are liable to pay the cost of advertising (should be <$150), and the rent until a new tenant will move in. If the rental market is good and the agent/landlord is nice you may only end up paying the advertising fee.

Beg, borrow or steal a laser sight.
Line it up on the forehead of one of the bogans.
He will run after his mates when they load their undies.
cheers
