To many "religions" organizations are far to worried about the money, how much gold is hanging on the walls and also teaching what the people want, not what they actually need.

If everyone followed Jesus example and teachings and applied them in their lives, the Earth would for sure would be free from crime, violence, racial hatred and wars to name a few. It would be much closer to how it was supposed to be.
Not that religion has caused any wars or deaths

So true, false religion has been one of the biggest causes of wars, this would not be the case if they stuck to the bible instead of teaching what they see fit. No true Christian religion would go to war, this is simply because Jesus taught to love one another, even your enemy's

On the money. Doctrine has been the downfall of many religions. You have true christians, then you have Christendom, too very diferent things unfortunatly.

Christian= follow in jesus example to the best of your ability.

Yeppa, and Jesus came to the people to return them to the true faith, or in other words get rid of the corruption and politics and doctrine from the church. what he didn't say was make a new church call " christian"

also interesting is that Mohammed rose to fame as a result of corruption ( he was the good guy) and the Muslim faith spread so quickly mainly due to the corruption of the EOC. OH OH and there would be no Muslim faith if the Jews didn't save his mates from dyeing in the dessert, rather ironic but theres more, even the Koran says be nice to the Jews. LOL

Religion has been defined as 'people's beliefs and opinions concerning the existence, nature, and worship of God, a god, or gods, and divine involvement in the universe and human life' and 'an institutionalized or personal system of beliefs and practices relating to the divine' and 'a set of strongly-held beliefs, values, and attitudes that somebody lives by'

So your religion is whatever it is that drives you, that is, at bottom, your motivating force, that you trust in. So you may have Christianity as your religion, or Atheism, or Islam, or yourself, or whatever it is that is the motivating force in your life.

Religion is at the heart of everything we do. That is why all wars are ultimately religious wars. If someone attacks the very heart of my being then I will fight, in some way.

There's not much point in saying 'lets get rid of religion, then, and we won't have any more wars'. For two reasons. You can't get rid of religion. Its an innate part of our human-ness. And trying to get rid of religion would simply cause war because you would be attacking the core of another's being. Actually, trying to get rid of religion is really only trying to replace one religion with another. Which is guaranteed to cause war!

So the real question for each of us as individuals is, 'which is the right religion'? Which one meets the needs of the human race? Which one recognises most accurately the human condition and provides real answers? Smart alec answers about beer and FSM (sorry fellas, I'm not trying to be smart or offensive, but these aren't serious options) are all good fun but don't really answer any questions.

Answering this question, which is the right religion, will make all the pieces fall into place and give life meaning and significance.

Willem

I am interested in this concept of religion starts wars.

Lets have a quick review.

The Boer war. The new South African nations settlers versus the English over self rule and land? Autonomy?

The Spanish Civil war. Politics. Right wing versus Left wing?

The American Civil war. Those who fought for the fredoms of all people versus those who thought that slavery was acceptable. Ideology?

WW1 . Caused by the assasinatiion of Archduke Ferdinand and the subsequent invasion of neighbouring countries. Good excuse for a land grab?

WW2. Caused by an unacceptable outcome for the German Nation from the treaty of Versailles and a megalomaniac who made good use of that inequity to whip the nation into a hate frenzy. Joined in by the Japanese who were also on a land grab by invading China.

Korean War. Left vs Right. Started off as a police action against the North and esacalated from there. Ideology and politics.

Vietnam war. Left versus right. Ideology and politics.

The Falklands War. Oil, Self rule and a land grab?

Irag war. If you think this one was really about religion then don't even consider that it may have been about the US self interest in relation to
oil supply and big $.

Afghan war. Maybe a religous war but more about the opression of a people by Fundamentalists( and believe me both sides have their share of those that are both scary and dangerous.

Out of interest if you have examples of wars caused by religion then I'd like to hear them.
