One advantage it has over the D3/4 is that is stays in off-road height up to 70km/h, unlike the 50km/h limit of the D3.

It is very capable off-road with the off-road pack that includes diff-locks. Also full range of off-road accessories like snorkel, underbody protection available.

however, its interior and engine isn't as nice as the one in the D4 and it's a lot smaller. Looks that only a mother could love.

I don't mind that you didn't get a LR but you should be banned for getting a diesel Porsche!

Why?

Re-Sale value
Well put together
Re-Sale value
A change is as good as a holiday
30000km service interval

The lower model Cayennes have reasonably good off road ability. It's only the Turbos that are limited as they are 20mm lower.
17" wheels so there's good tyre choices.
Battery is under the seat like a fender!
The off road pack comes with belly armour, an extra recovery point, locking rear diff (which can also be user slected).

It's maybe not as plush as a D4 but IMHO more efficient. But then define plush: I'm getting 12way adjustable sports seats with electric s/wheel seatbelt adjusters etc, leather/alcantara, multi fn s/wheel, laminated privacy glass, bluetooth, rear camera, electric tailgate, sunroof etc

The motor is very good. Better than the 2.7TDV6 but less power/torque than the 3.0TDV6 (but weighs less). Even so, it's almost a second faster to 100kph than the RRS TDV8 (not that will matter much to me)

It's smaller than a D4, but we travelled all over in the Suby, even going up the GCR to Alice with three adults. Cars are like sheds/houses, the bigger they are, the exponentially more stuff we try to cram in them! We'll survive.

It's on the same platform as a touareg but that's where it ends.

I considered a D4, RRS, RR and MB GL. The G-Wagen is too far away.

Andrew, was it a white RRS? There's a retired Salmon Gums farmer who has on with ESP plates and the number's similar to mine.

Can I just ask... you say re-sale. I checked Wheels and the Cayenne is rated at 66% for it's 3 year resale. I then looked at the disco and is varies but it's 61-63%. Surely this isn't a big difference, and given that the discos are often
cheaper - wouldn't you loose less on a disco?

Sometimes I think people look at percentages on resale and not purchase price. A mate of mine just bought a Skoda, which may only have a resale of 50%. The Liberty that he was comparing it to was 60+%. So you'd think the liberty would be the go. However he got an eye watering deal on the Skoda and paid 15k less than the liberty. He's ahead all the way home on that one.

Can I say in all seriousness that I reckon the Cayenne will be a hoot!

The reality is the re sale value on the D3 is much lower. My research suggests 60+% is fanciful on upper level models.

Plus the HSE D4 is not much cheaper than than the Cayenne when options and ORC are taken into account.

I acknowledge your point on overall cost, but I was only considering certain vehicles.

There are other factors to consider such as maintenance costs.

Plus, another factor that I won't go into here. Suffice to say, if there was a Sniegy or Scouse in WA, my decision may have been different!

But the Porsche is a sweet car to drive

Oh yeah baby!

Resale on cars always backs off as you go upspec. With the porker you're probably at the lower end so should get a good return if you can give it up
