Thumbs down Helping forum members

Helping people on this forum can be frustrating.

Back very early in December a member of the forum was having some issues on a Defender.

He basically had suffered a failure of a particular part which caused a critical electrical item to not work.

This aprt wasn’t in stock with LR and would take a while to get.

I had a second hand one in my parts kit which I offered to lend him.

He accepted via PM and I sent it over at my own expense guaranteed next day delivery. He offered to send the postage cost by return but I said not to worry, and just return it when he had the replacement one.

Predictably I haven’t heard from him since….. (He didn’t even email saying he had received it which I would have done)

So I followed up and sent an email a while ago which got no response and have done so again today to see if that generates any reply.

I do have his work address, name and phone number but don’t really feel I should have to chase this. At least an email saying he was still using it and would get it back asap would have been polite, or even that it didnt arrive if it had got lost etc. No reply atall is a bit slack.

Frustrating, and it makes me far less likely to offer help or parts to anyone else unless I know them. spoils it for others IMO

Maybe a refundable deposit is needed!

Rgds
Pete

Im sorry to hear about your situation Pete. I must say that the people I have delt with on here have been fantastic (for similar situations). I suppose if you look at their post rate (I do), see if they have been around for some time and contributed to the forum then they are most likely safer to deal. On the other hand, if they only have a few posts, joined recently then I wouldnt want to offer anything free until such time that they have 'proven' themselves... which of course is only based on personal judgement.

Hope you get this issue sorted out.

Well I would like to publicly thank you Pete for helping me out, when I had issues with my Defender. All the folk I have dealt with on this forum have been most helpful and generous, I hope you get your part back Pete, and I hope the experience doesn't stop you helping others, your Land Rover knowledge is fantastic.

Cheers, Mick.

Stooge,

don't judge everyone by the post count ( although i do get your drift ), i've been around here for years and still only got 400 odd posts!!, and have received a load of help from a bunch of very helpfull people too..

I think if someone's good enough to help you out, then at least reply to his requests for the bits back, maybe the contact details should be passed onto the mods to contact him in a non public manner?.

Ray,

Hey Pete, just remember the old Jackson 5 song "One bad apple don't spoil darn bunch" . There's always one in the pack, but the majority in this forum are a pretty great bunch of guys and gals.

Hope you get some satisfaction regarding the part.

All the best,

A.J.

Thats not good mate, communication these days isnt hard and it doesnt take long to shoot off an email or a PM. In some ways they have stolen the item, even though there was a previous argreement that he could borrow it.

I have to say that I have recieved plenty of help from members on here and they have always been great. People going out of their way before trips to pick things up for me, parts just given to me because people didnt need them anymore (thanks Scouse). But in return i do what i can to help others out aswell. Its a two way street.

This is one of the best forums on the internet in these terms and its a shame when someone like this ruins it, as they say there is one in every bunch.
