In a nutshell:

"County" is to Land Rover 110 what "Ghia" is to Ford Fairmont.

It's a trim spec, not a model.

Good comparison - Ghia was also used on Lase, Telstar, Cortina etc. And friends of mine used to refer to their Cortina as a Ghia. But unlike the County term for Landrovers, it never became attached to a specific model.

But correct me if I'm wrong. Prior to the 110 Station Wagon the trim level was called Deluxe, it was only on the 110 and 90 wagons and the term (or at least the decals) were never applied to the Defender models. The poverty pack 110 wagons were not sold in this country.

In which case it specifies a model, at least in Australia?

The County trim level was, as this thread shows, used for Series 3, possibly only Stage 1, my understanding is that Deluxe (going back at least to Series 2) continued, but the County trim was to a higher level - for example, I suspect Deluxe meant floor mats, door trim and headlining, all standard in the Station Wagon, and on top of this County added, for example, carpet, fancy decals on the side, and at least for the 110, tinted Windows. (The term was also used for Rangerovers, but possibly not in Australia)

You are right, the standard 110 wagons were not sold in this country.

But I can't agree that it specifies a model, even in Australia - "County 110" does, but the Stage 1 that started this thread shows "County" is not specific, and it is also often misused to describe non-County trim pre-Defender 110s other than wagons.

County

Thanks for all the info on the County, it was extremely interesting and I now have a greater understanding about the "County" and how it was introduced.

Does anyone have a brochure specifying what the differences between County and Deluxe trim were?

I know that Stage 1 wagons received "sundim tinted glass" and furry headlinings on the 110.

Also I'm aware that in the SIIa there were differences in seat upholstery within what were described as Deluxe trim, but were these separate and descrete trim levels or was the County just a renaming of the full trim not dissimilar to when the Holden "Special" of the HR model became the "Premier" in the HT model.
