    PAS Pump???

My steering has become quite heavy under ~2000 rpm or so. When it first occurred it was quite sudden, and I had almost no PAS at all. Over the last 3000 km or so, the level of PAS has varied, but it is definitely less than it should be, but seems OK above ~ 2000 rpm.

I have a recently fitted (6 months or so), leak-free, Disco 1 PAS box, and the system is full of fluid.

I suspect from the symptoms the pump must be on the way out?

Has anyone rebuilt an ISUZU PAS pump, or had one rebuilt? I would be interested in any info/prices.

Isuzubob was replacing the shaft seal in one recently and was going to do a tutorial. Not sure if it ended up being a bigger rebuild than that.

I bought a used pump from a truck wrecker for $125 a couple of weeks ago.

Are you using the truck style pump or the land rover one?

? Mine is a factory '87 4BD1 110 county, and has a gear driven pump. Are there differences between the landy and truck versions?

I have just replaced the internal seal ($8) but the shaft was worn and needed a speedi sleeve ($45 IIRC). Replaced the large O-ring which seals the pump to the block ($3). I know of someone who bought a pump from a truck wrecker for his LR - pretty sure there are no differences. Tutorial is still to come.

Here are some pics of each style pump, the larger one which is bolted to the engine is a land rover one.The smaller one on the bench is the truck one.

Apart from physical size, is there any other difference eg hose fittings etc.
Doesn't make sense to me for LR to make a special pump when the truck pump does the same job.
There must be something more to it....

Can't see why the landie would need a larger PAS pump??? Any idea what the 6BD1 pump looks like? I have heard they are larger than 4BD1.

I was going to suggest that LR would be unlikely to produce their own PAS pump for an Isuzu engine, the 6BDI pump could be the item to look for. Anyone know how much pressure these 4BD1 and or 6BD1 pumps produce as against a standard LR pump?
