Isuzu maintenance?

Apart from changing the oil and filters. Is there any other periodic maintenance that needs to be carried out on these engines?

Anything that needs to be replaced or adjusted?

Scott, that just about sums it up. Regular filter and oil changes (also air and fuel filters). Nothing else seems to need any attention on these motors. I had 750K on my original motor with nothing more than the above and replacing the front and rear crankshaft seals plus getting the injectors cleaned twice. Not even a water pump or belts for that matter even tho I changed them and the radiator hoses a few times. Nothing else.

What Brian said. At ~300k km I pulled my injectors out to have them cleaned/tested and get the popoff pressures reset. I was told they needed replacing ($300 using genuine parts). I didn't notice a difference afterwards.

Thanks guys. I took the car out to play yesterday in the mud and it got me thinking about general maintenance. You never hear about any maintenance things on the isuzu and a search turned up zip.
I just hosed off the (suprisingly little) mud and I'll pump some grease into every nipple and she'll be fine.

I thought this weeks maintenance was replacing the "County" decals on the sides of the vehicles

Cheaper than a Puma service

At 500,000km - maintenance as suggested above - had the injectors checked once - and told I had wasted my money, replaced crankshaft seals, sump gasket, three or four thermostats. There is a strainer in the union where the fuel comes in on the bottom of the injection pump - this should be checked occasionally. Check tappet clearances from time to time, check injection timing from time to time. Alternator has failed twice, and the starter has also needed attention, mainly due to a failed engine/chassis earth - see comment below about tightening bits that shake off.

But as indicated, the main maintenance is replacing the bits shaken off elsewhere on the vehicle.

But in general these engines, given adequate supplies of fuel, oil and coolant, seem to be designed to require little other attention.

Not quite "engine" mainenance, but if you have an air-con belt tensioner pulley on the front of the engine it should have a grease nipple accessible from underneath. This is often overlooked and the pulley seizes. Best to pump in some grease every so often.
