    Contacts needed (maybe)

G'day All, I might need to replace the engine in my 110 (Isuzu 3.9), it had something go horribly wrong last Friday. I thought it was a sticky injector, but that wasn't the case, I was informed that it could have blown a head gasket between cyl's 1 & 2 as when I cracked the injector lines on both cylinders ( 1 at a time) it made no difference to the motor, 3 & 4 made a difference, anyway I was on my way to Dungog for them to do whatever with it, when suddenly approx 35K's short of my destination it made a whizz bang ratchet type sound.
I switched the engine off quickly, I couldn't see anything out of place, anyway NRMA tilt tray took it to Dungog, where it sits in the garage until Monday, hopefully someone will lift the head or make a start on it.
What I might need to know is where to get good parts I suppose Isuzu truck spares could be a good start, ?? where would I look for a low K imported engine if I had to go that way, sometimes cheaper n easier than a rebuild?? anyway any pointers appreciatted, cheers Dennis
ps that has put a spanner in the works, as I was going to Emu Gully next month,,.

Sad news - I hope it's not too drastic and you are able to sort it out ralatively easily and cheaply.

Just a few words of warning re the "low K imported engine" option - A number of years ago I tried three low K imported Mazda engines for a 26 seater bus and after inspecting the rocker gear on each one they were all returned to the supplier as it appeared that the oil had never been changed in them and the wear in the rocker gear was so excessive that I didn't need to inspect further. I decided I was better off rebuilding the existing rather high mileage but less worn (due to regular servicing) motor.

Apparantly, in Japan, the motors have to be replaced after a certain mileage or time and therefore they don't bother servicing them regularly.

Sometimes, what seems to be the easiest course of action is not always, in the long run, the best.

Wait until you find out exactly what's wrong with it first. It might not be as bad as you expect, even though it sounded bad. As long as it hasn't put a rod through the block, you might just find it's repairable.

When DaveS and I blew a head gasket the engine had no power, ran like a 2-stroke and was blowing out clouds of black smoke worse than a steam train.

I have known a 6BD1 to try and spit out a gudgeon pin. Made a hell of a noise, but only needed a new piston and liner AFAIR.

Try a wreckers, they network amongst themselves to access parts across the country.
Or try here...... AutoParts.com.au - Reach over 500 Wrecking Yards with one Request

A chap at work just had a Rodeo ute (Isuzu diesel) fail at 200K kms. They had to lift the head to remove the pushrods, all 8 were a lovely 'S' shape. Turned out an oil pipe had worked loose and dropped into the timing gears taking out a few teeth in the process.

VRS plus pushrods and timing gears from a wrecker and it should be back on the road ready for another 200K kms...

    Best of luck.

G'day All, Well the news is not good, No 1 piston had separated, leaving the crown of the piston in the bore, but the remainder of No 1 piston went down to destroy the liner and possibly the rod and until any further work is done, who knows what other damage there could/might be, so I guess it's mortally wounded so to speak.
Now I will be scouring the net for new parts, I had a look thru the catalogue from the site in Mexico (Victoria) and came up with a figure of $2,056.00 for what aprts I thought i would need, going on the sitrep, anyway loks like 110 will be off the road for some time to come, swmbo is not impressed, anyway I will have to weigh up whether to rebuild engine or scrap 110 cheers Dennis
