    New Loom..

    Hi All,

I seem to be consistently battling with poor electrical modifications on my county, that, combined with having a new firewall to put in place has me thinking to using a completely new loom.

Has anyone done this? Is it possible to get an Isuzu county loom (or modify a 2.5 diesel county loom). Not sure if its going to be easier or harder in the long term. I also want to get rid of the glass fuses - would a Tdi loom work?

    Cheers guys

Yep, I figure I would keep the standard loom - pretty much standard (ie not splicing random things left right and centre)

All accessories are via an additional accessory loom (with the exception of the upgraded headlights which need to be activated via the usual headlight switch)

And have the whole thing done with top quality wire and connectors, and ditch the fuses for Eaten 4310 series breakers.

If we do one, we may as well do 10. Does anyone know anyone who could help with this?

I have to rewire 'Reg' so if I pull the old wiring out and disgard all the spagetti additions. I've got the schematic, so should be able to copy it. Just going to be time consuming doing the first one. Once we have a pattern, no problemo.

Drivesafe would be the man for designing the "Optional Extras Upgrade"

    Loom

My neighbors run a business from their property called NRG. They manufacture custom looms for earthmoving equipment etc. I can ask if they would do a small run and if it is possible.

I'd be keen on this. Mine has been butchered and I'd like to start from fresh.

I'd like a new loom too, when my funds recover a little...though it'd probably take me a year to get around to installing...

Vintage Wiring Harness in Ringwood Vintage Wiring Harness - High Quality Replacement Automotive Wiring Harnesses make reproduction harnesses for all manner of cars.

Unfortunately the the latest Land Rover model they currently show in their catalogue is Series III, however they are always ready to add new models to their catalogue. It is just a matter of asking the question and possibly supplying the old harness and/or the vehicle.

It may also be possible for them to make standardised part harnesses for the converted vehicles, like Range Rover or Defender with 4BD1.

Yes, even though they mostly make cotton covered wire and cotton braided harnesses they are also able to supply the correct colour coded plastic insulated wires, with terminals in a plastic bound harness.

I received a reply from Vinwire about reproducing the county wiring harness and also whether they would make an engine harness for 4BD1 converted V8 Defender and County. This is their reply.

We would love to help. But in saying that I would need a sample loom and the details of the changes that are required. From there we could create a pattern and hopefully produce them as required.
    Can you send me this?

Anyone in Melbourne, near Ringwood (factory 7 477 Maroondah Highway) who'd be prepared to supply a dead county harness or even let them near a converted vehicle?

I've almost finished rewiring my 2 door range rover after I had similar issues.. It's had an engine swap, multiple butchering by previous owners and it was just cactus.

I bought a generic universal wiring loom from painless performance in the states. Nice micro fuses already wired up in a fuse box, loom all pre wired (although for a petrol car... could be modified for diesel). I mean, you need to add things and change a couple of things, but at the end of the day you have a brand new loom, done the way you want to do it (providing you know how to do it) with quality wiring.

    Just another thought!
