    Water pump options

Now that I've got the engine running, my 4bd1 water pump has decided to leak. I'm guessing its the shaft seal - definitely not the joint onto the block or the spacer plate as its leaking into the pulley and throwing it everywhere from there.

Isuzu in Melbourne have new pumps in stock - $400. No overhaul kits though, and given the current state of things in Japan they wont even guess when they can get one.

Haven't tried the wreckers yet...and not even sure if the truck pumps are the same.

Any other suggestions as to where to get either a pump or overhaul kit?

The land rover engine uses the same waterpump as the early truck engines, They are easy to work on but I've had no luck finding a seal for them.
Isuzu sell the seal for the later truck pumps but I'm not sure if they fit the earlier pumps.

Press is not a problem - if I can get hold of the parts to go in it.
Other than the seal itself, which other parts are usually stuffed when you pull them apart?

if you're lucky none... if you're not the impeller, shaft and bearings will be stuffed.

    Thanks Dave.

The bearings were reasonable when I had the pump off recently, but I'll probably just replace them anyway as I'm guessing they aren't anything special.
    Hopefully the shaft is OK.

From what I can work out the Isuzu P/N for the seal is 5136200061. They are in stock at Isuzu for $60 so I've just ordered one and will see how it goes.

Any tips or gotcha's for doing the job?

    A quick update on this.
    Seal was the correct part.
Impeller was OK but the shaft was badly corroded.
The witness hole in the housing where you would normally see coolant leaking from once it gets past the seal was full of crud so the coolant was making its way past the secondary seal and bearings and coming out the front bearing into the pulley.

New main seal, shaft, secondary seal and a couple of washers/circlips totalled $110 (all genuine Isuzu parts).
Bearings are a standard size so just got them from CBC bearings for about $8 each, and made my own gaskets.
Total cost around $130 and a few hours work (I work slowly) to rebuild it.

I took a few photos along the way so will get them posted at some stage.

I bought a new water pump for under $300.00 from don kyatt thing its spelt right. They happend to have a impellor seal as well there so I got that for about $25 I think. So I will be rebuilding my old one some time. Isuzu had the kits in melbourne but they were only from memory $50
cheaper that the price they said for the pump. My shaft was rusted too and I broke the drive flange getting it off. You don't have to worry if the shaft has surface rust as the seal runns from the impeller to the housing and you would be putting a heap of gease on it any way.
I think I will turn up a new drive flange and shaft any way.
