The cost: yes, wasn't sure about that considering I have no idea of costs in Australia.

Performance: I don't know about your statement being that true, since cast manifolds aren't known for their accurate inner dimensions

Durability: as far as I know, thick wall tube will not crack like cast iron or even ductile iron. But I've been known to be wrong.

The OEM manifold is quite good. All modern TDIs use "log" type manifolds such as that (minimum distance between ports and turbo), as they have been found to be more efficient. So you would only be replicating the OEM manifold. The OEM manifolds are not prone to failure, and a higher thermal mass over steel tube will likely help.

I got mine in eBay for a bit over a hundred (can't remember exactly).

They do come up from time to time. Are you set on a new one or will second hand suffice? (Mine is second hand, but vgc)

Not set on new if good second hand available. But for clearance on the bonnet the T3 one on the angle would be preferred.

Interestingly, today I saw one where the turbo was in the underside of the manifold, bonnet clearance wouldn't be a problem but I'd imagine it would be a problem for the chassis rail and a/c pump if fitted.

IMO second hand manifolds aren't worth it. They all need machining at a minimum to clean up the face, some are cracked and you don't find out till later on.

My turbo sits below the manifold. It is simply the older IHI top mount manifold that has had the neck cut off, flipped and rewelded.

carcrafter22 has a custom type header arrangement on his motor i do not have the link dougal you might have the link maybe.
i payed $370 for my turbo manifold the same as isuzurovers and it saved me lots of frustrating hours making one myself.
my opinion on cast iron is that in this use (exhaust manifold) it does the job quite well in holding heat and durability but its a bastard to work with if mods are needed.

Diana,

here is a link to the pic of my TB25 Garrett attached to the slanted outlet T3 flange manifold identical to Bens genuine Isuzu one. I bought it from Turboglide many years back, for $400 since then discovered genuine Isuzu ones are cheaper anyway, it clears everything and is an easy fit.

Hey guys,
I have been reading through this thread with interest.
I wish to turbo my 4BE1 soon, and have a Garrett Turbo from a Td5 Disco.
May l ask for some help as to what l will require as far as exhaust manifold, bolts, adaptor etc etc.
No doubt you guys have a good knowledge of this set-up, and request your help if available please?

The 4BE1 was never turbocharged from the factory. So unless 4BD1 parts fit, it will all need to be custom...
